My guess is median whiskey. Also, not sure what the practice is for when to drink from it: drink from it whenever you want or if people wait until the bottle is filled completely.
You can direct the flavor in any direction you want -- no one says you have to have a hard and fast rule about what goes in.

I started my Scotch bottle from a bottle of Chivas "Century of Malts" -- itself a blend of 100 single malts -- about thirty years ago There's some awfully good stuff in there, and the taste is wonderful.

The practice can become addictive. I also keep separate canisters of a house spice mix and a house herb mix. I used both on a one pound piece of Steelhead Trout tonight, and it was great.

Thinking of starting a general mix of whiskies, rums, Cognacs, etc. Dunno if this is a good idea or intestinal suicide... :cool

I first tried it after 10 bourbons. Then again after 20. And now, whenever I feel like it. But it’s really good now, so I need to pour off a bunch to preserve this blend. :wow:
So, I guess a question that comes to mind is, Do you try to shape the blend by conscientiously adding certain flavor profiles?

This one was very, very interesting – anybody else had it?

The lighting makes it look a lot darker than it actually is: colour more akin to something like cider vinegar (see bottom photo).

I haven't had that one, but recently tried the Caol Ila 8 yr and it was very enjoyable. Surprisingly smooth for 58%.

I’ve just been buying bourbons that I like, or want to try. As I am learning, I’ll lean more towards flavor profiles that I know I will like... and probably more high end bottles as I grow my collection.

I want to start a bottle for scotch as well. I need more storage space to keep those bottles on hand. And I have a lot to learn about scotch.

Do any of you bourbon devotees keep an infinity bottle?

If so, do you keep a list of what's gone into it?
I have 3. Wheat, regular and Blanton’s. The regular has a bunch of different stuff in varying amounts, think I was trying to improve the EC and Heavens Door. The wheat is Jefferson’s Ocean Voyage 15, Bernheim, Weller 107, Larceny and I think maybe one more. The Blanton’s will not be a single barrel when I get done.

I had the opportunity to buy an Angel's Envy Cask Strength today. I passed at $200. Should I have bought it? I feel that most of the reviews and videos say absolutely not....

oh yeah, uh... Makers Mark 46 and Four Roses Single Barrel tonight. meh

Anyway, I am just learning but it appears as though December is the time to start looking for WLW, Stagg, and Pappy. Is that correct? Or is that only correct for Oregon?

I do believe the Pappy allocation is coming soon. I'll ask my neighbor.

I'm way late to this thread.

Hi. I'm Brian and I like bourbon.

My display shelf... mostly selected for the purdy bottles. (infinity bottle in the back right)

But my usual go to's are Eagle Rare, Russells Reserve 10 and Old Forrester 1920. Look forward to working through these (130!) pages for some new ideas.

This thread is basically the same 8 people talking on and on, but there is still plenty of good stuff to find here. Welcome!

My infinity bottle has been built from mostly mid-range bourbons that my crew have brought to poker night. Any decent bottle that came in the house got a 1 oz draw into the infinity bottle. (The guys called it the 'Bourbon Tax'). Then we would finish last hand of the night with a neat pour from our special blend. Kind of a nice tradition.

I started trying to keep track of what went in it but gave up after a year or so.

I think this is the purpose of an infinity bottle. It’s not that you blend a bunch of together so much as the bottle never really ends and you add and pour and add and pour.

I finished pouring my finite bottles.
I had 3 different ones. One for each bourbon, scotch, and peated scotch

I told my wife last night that all I want for Christmas is a day trip to Oregon to search for good whiskey. We can even stay a night in a fancy hotel if she wants to tag along.

Normally, we would have been down to Gresham to visit family for Thanksgiving and Christmas. I would have had two trips to search for the good stuff!

Without even tasting it, I know it isn't worth the price point. However, it is the nicest packaging I've ever seen. Beautiful (heavy) box....gorgeous. 17,400 released,120.4 proof, I hope it is soooo much better than the regular AE. If it isn't this will be the last AE I ever buy.

I haven't read even a few pages of this thread, so I'm just jumping in with an opinion:

I'm a pussy, and don't drink hard alcohol well. It's possible that I've just not had good stuff, so I've been tainted and haven't continued to tried higher ends. I don't actually even know the difference between scotch, bourbon, or whatever other genres of whiskey there are.
However, I LOVE the peanut butter flavored shit. It's possible that you connoisseur's wouldn't even qualify it as a whiskey haha.

Rams Point and Revel Stoke specifically.

To make it even MORE dessertie, I like to add blackberry or raspberry Chambord to it for the classic Peanut Butter and Jelly flavor.
