Yeah, I meant that EH Taylor BP brada! Try it yet???

Is it OPEN?
Happy New Year’s!!!

It’s good, Jim...REALLY good.

Nose is super sweet...Brown sugar and apple. A little oak and a very noticeable high proof.

The palate is much sweeter than I expected. Standard caramel and vanilla, but sweeter. Some oak notes, and spicy and cinnamon finish that lingers and then trails off back into sweetness.

It’s a very nice Kentucky hug! The most expensive bourbon I’ve ever bought, so I might be biased. Lol.

On @JeepologyOffroad recommendation, I searched for Rare Breed for a few weeks. Once I found it, I bought 3 bottles. Lol. I guess it’s popular here.

It’s interesting. The nose is full of oak and pepper.

The palate is almost like a rye, very spicy with some oak. The finish is long and powerful rye spice that ends a little sweet.

It is great, but my palate prefers OF 1920 at this proof (~115) and price ($50-$60 for me). OF 1920 is a cherry bomb, while WT Rare Breed is a spicy mother.

“Chewing” does bring out more of the vanilla and burnt caramel, but that rye spice and maybe cinnamon are still strong.

Could be wrong, but it looks very similar to a "tasting" size glencairn. Just with a slightly less tapered mouth.

Longtime peated single malt drinker, now apparently bourbon-curious. I seem to be channeling @Big Jilm all of the sudden, by cruising out-of-the-way liquor stores: First Stagg Jr and MWND, now these. Thanks again to my Whisk(e)y Whisperer™ @ChaosRock, for the on-the-fly advice.

Those have to be Upstate prices?

Curious for a pleated scotch drinker if you gravitate toward the ryes mwnd/yippee or the Stagg/Rip

Yes, upstate prices. MWND was $90, Stagg Jr $75, Rip Van Winkle $140, YKY $72.

TBH, most bourbons are too sweet for me, but ryes are spicier and fit my palate better. Have a Coppersea rye that is fantastic, as is a Taconic rye (which is a bargain at $40).

But I figured I’d give bourbon a go, and life’s too short not to drink the good stuff.

I grabbed a couple of these store picks today. Never had the double rye

Well yeah when the good stuff can be had at those prices lol. Nice score.

The one and only liquor store in my town got a bottle of old rip today. Store owner couldn’t even keep a straight face when I asked the price and started laughing lol

Did he give you the price?

I ask, because I had a similar experience in a small liquor store this year. He told me he had a bottle of Pappy, but that I may not like the price. I asked how much, expecting the $600-700 response. He pulled it up in the computer and told me it was $130.

Your reply? Assuming it was I’ll take it.

I struck up a conversation with the shop owner about my preference for Islay single malts, but that I was trying bourbons and wanted to try some allocated bottles. They asked what I was looking for and I rattled off a few, all of which they said they only got a bottle or two of per year. I then said “well, then I suppose there’s no way you’d ever have any Van Winkle.”
The response? “Well, I do have a bottle of 10 Rip Van Winkle set aside for a customer, but it’s been months since he said he’d come get it, so if you want it, it’s yours.” Then reached into a file cabinet and pulled it out.

After saying yes, please and thank you, I said “what else you got in that cabinet?!?”
