I like them a lot, great medium bodied smoke. The bull is a little stonger IMO, but I'd still classify it as medium. Great flavor changes throughout.

love em. the ovals are one of my favorite smokes, followed by regular habanos, then the bull and enclaves, and new world for the price.

I agree with the New World being a great smoke for the price. One of my favorites under $8.

These any good?

I went to Total Wine and they were out of Blanton's, so I went to Raley's... but to get the 30% discount you have to get 6 mix and match.

I have never tried the four on the left. The Easter family poker game is going to be extra interesting this year.

...plus a Trigo Extra Anejo. The Don Q Grand Anejo was a narrow winner over the 2007 Single Barrel. I knew there was a reason this ship stopped in San Juan...

That's a great line-up and a good mix of different bourbon tastes.

My dad got me a bottle of the Double Oaked Woodford Reserve for my birthday, cracked it open for tonight's tourney & cash game. What an absolutely fantastic bourbon!

Macallan is probably the most highly sherried of all Scotches. With a similar taste profile, you might try a Glenfarclas, Aberlour A'Bunadh, or Springbank 12 (and up) instead. Or the Balvenie Doublewood.

Update. I went to my inlaws for the derby yesterday. when I arrived, I remembered they don't drink. I walked up the street to the liquor store for some Jack Daniels. Ended up with Aberlour 12. I had it neat. Babam! To me, it's much smoother than Macallan 12 and for the same price. Like I said, I was not a brown liquor guy 3 years ago, so smooth is key for me. What makes Macallan 18 nearly 4 times (price) as good as this Aberlour 12? Not sure I'll ever notice that much of a difference.

Thanks again for steering me there. Open to other suggestions, but for the price this will be tough to beat. If you have a better one, slightly higher in price, I 'm game

I've been contemplating picking up a bottle of that.

I personally find Macallans to be overpriced and rather uninteresting. So I never buy them. Aberlour, however...nice choice!

This doesn't surprise me. I was on s bourbon hunt a short while back. A friend said start with the ones that begin with B and go from there. He wasn't wrong, but I grabbed a sample bottle of Woodford and rally liked it. I imagine the Double Oak is Double Dog Dare you better!

Ok. So I bought the Aberlour A'Bunadh, but didn't like it. My group does, so no harm. As I wrote earlier, I bought the Aberlour 12 Year and really like it. At $20 less, that's a bonus for me. Given I like the Aberlour 12, what else would you recommend? Needs to be as smooth, but perhaps more interesting? I am aware of the fact that as I try these, my defination of smooth probably changes a bit, as I become more accustom to the "bite". I have a gift card and want to use it up, in case it has an expiration date!

Finally found a bottle of Elijah Craig Barrel Proof 136o... (y)(y)(y)(y)

A friend of mine brought a bottle to one of our league games and I was totally blown away by this pour... One of my most memorable bourbon experience of the last few months for sure... Not for the faint of heart at 136 Proof but it drinks beautifully, even without a drop of water... It took me quite a while to find a bottle around here... Not cheap unfortunately...

On the Malt side of things, any comments/impressions on any of the Kavalans? I've been meaning to try those, specially the vinho barrique, but I've read things across the board about them... Are those just too hyped?

Also, had the chance to finally open a bottle of Kilchoman Machir Bay and loved it! I'd definitely buy more of that stuff... For peat lovers only btw...
