Ok, based on your comments the HM10 varies wildly?
If these aren't my golden tickets, @Saoliver has one for me from WA. Hopefully one of them is the goods!

Yes, that's been my experience with the HM10 SB BIB. However, I did not mean to imply the good barrels are few and far between, only that I hope you get an excellent one. I personally have not experienced a horrible barrel yet, only 'great' and 'not bad at all'...

Not sure if I made a slight mistake but passed on an EC 18. Could probably get it tomorrow

How much? That's one of my favorites but it's always jacked in price around here.

Speaking of Single Malt USA, I've always been tempted by the Balcones, but never bought any.

My personal take on Balcones Single Malts is just tad different than @aggie 's.

Are they out of this world? No, I don't think they are. But they are not horrible either. Some in fact are quite alright, like the Mirrador, Brujeria and Hechiceros. Even the Peated bottling is drinkable. The Single Malt range, imo, are the best offerings they have. Their other bottlings don't cross the threshold for me.

Having said that, they do indeed taste quite young, despite the quick Texas maturation span. They also do have the Texas whiskey funk (Mirrador a little less).

If one wants to keep trying different whiskies and having different experiences, I'd say try them. If one is only concerned about optimizing price and quality, I'd say skip them.

Another thing is one's familiarity with Single Malts. For me. it's always better to have a multitude of reference points so I try to have as many different Malts as I can. If it's someone's first foray into Single Malts then I'd say, again, skip it.

One exception to the Texas whiskey funk that I've found is the Ironroot Harbinger. I've heard good things about Garrison Bros, but I'm not paying their prices for 4 y.o. whiskey.

I tried the Baby Blue after having a glass of Bookers at dinner a few weeks ago. I was very disappointed and wished I would have just stuck with the Bookers. Oh well, live and learn think they Bookers was less per glass as well.

Have a Garrison Bros but yet to open it. Have to wait for a friend to be around to open it.

Does it say where it's distilled? Indiana? Probably pretty good. WV? Who knows. Their bourbon is pretty good.

I’m pretty sure it’s the 95/5 MGP Rye Mashbill.

The bourbon picks were Dickle for a few years but they are back to being MGP as well, although younger MGP.
