Again...I blame you Scrubdonkeys in this thread.

I've been toying with a negotiating tactic when trying to haggle prices--any thoughts? Basically, many places around me have secondary (or near secondary) pricing, and I've even heard shopkeepers basically say they price at secondary so they don't get cleaned out by flippers. So, my thought is that I ask if they can drop the price, if I agree to slice open the foil cap. Basically, I'm saying, I'm a drinker, not a collector/flipper.

An example: a place has THH at $400. I'd pull the trigger at $200. If they'd agree to that price, I'd break the seal, so they know I'm not a flipper. Any idea if this has merit?
Show them you aren’t a flipper. Open the bottle and offer a sample.

I just delivered samples to my favorite store the other day—Stagg Jr for the young lady that has held some bottles for me, and Alberta Premium Cask Strength Rye for the rye drinker.

Get to know the store owner. Build a relationship. Lol.

If you're near a Costco, check them for the Redbreast. I was surprised to see it at my Costco up here in northern Indiana. Was something cheap too, like $60 maybe.
I paid $65 for the Redbreast at 21st Amendment here in North Indy land

So far my favorite single malt. I've never sprung for a bottle but paid the $15-20 at bars once in awhile. Just couldn't pass it up this time since I'm spending more on whiskey than Chips these days.:D:ROFL: :ROFLMAO:
I love oban but spring for a clynelish 14. It’s a sleeper and so delicious. Also glendronach is up there too. I think they’re all different but in the same family. I always make sure I have a bottle of all 3 available

Saw the Clynelish but was hellbent for Oban tonight. Will have to check them out.

I have the 11.1. I like it a lot. I wonder how different each expression is

The X.1s are the exclusively ex-Bourbon casks bottles and they are somewhat close year by year, but definitely not identical.

The X.2s are travel retail exclusive and have very different cask finishes every year, so they vary a lot.

The X.3 is the Islay Barley (from the Octomore farm) distillate and has a mix of ex-bourbon and some years, a little bit of finishing to it so some variation on that series as well, although not as much as the X.2s

The X.4 are Virgin Oak I believe and not released every year. I have not had any of the X.4 myself.

Ages and peat level on the above varies somewhat which helps in differentiating the releases.

The 10 Year Old is a mix of things depending on the year. Some are great, some good.

All of the above five (again, never had the X.4s) are worth trying, if pricing is palatable. For a young whisky, it is hard to stomach the Octomore's price tag tbh. Across years, I have my preferences and think some are better than others but they are all good to great.
