A mere £16.95 from European supermarket, Aldi. Apparently a batch from Caol Ila and comparable to Laphroaig, so interested to try it later on this eve. Will report back...

Update: effing astounding for the price. Pretty mellow and slightly less peaty than a Laphroaig 10, but very, very drinkable.

Neighbor was day drinking today. I stopped by to chat only, and he made me try:

Kentucky Owl (fantastic - not sure which release, but it was one of the $110ish bourbons)
MB Roland (swill)
Makers Mark cask strength from 2015 (very good)
Elijah Craig 18 (oak oak more oak, first sip was overwhelming, subsequent sips were super smooth and far more palatable)
Crown Royal Texas Mesquite (freaking horrible)

My buddy scored me an EC18 yesterday. I’m excited to try it

I still have some MM Cask Strength from 2015 and just recently compared it to a 2020 release and I think it's better.

I own a 20-04, and my friend’s was a 15-05. I tried mine a couple weeks ago, and his I tried today. So it was not a side by side comparison, but from what I remember, I think I agree with you.

In one of my bourbon groups, somebody obtained a Maker’s Mark from around 1964, opened it and compared it to a modern bottle. He liked the 1964 better.

I have an earlier expression—just an insane deal for the price.

Wasn’t looking to pick anything up at the grocery store but saw this sitting by itself on the top shelf. Priced excellent, excited to try it.

I have a little book chapter 2 if you want

and if you want smoke wagon, just order from the website. They may be out of uncut unfiltered though. Last time I checked

Man, they don’t ship to Michigan :/

Would love the uncut unfiltered but would settle for even the small batch.

How’d you like it? The 120 proof knob creek bourbon is one of my favorites. I might need to get more into rye.
This is one my favorites of their recent special offerings. First had it about 2 years ago, I believe it was like #2 on Whiskey Advocate's top 20 in 2018. The subsequent bottlings haven't been quite as good, but I love this one. Very chewy with a lot sweet caramel up front that balances wonderfully with the peppery finish from the rye.

I keep passing on this on the store shelf. I think I need to pick one up this week, and a Bulleit 10 year. I hear good things about both, and they are firmly in my price range.

See if you can find this particular bottling year (2009). The 2010 isn't quite as tasty.

So I opened the Lost Monarch and it’s so delicious. I bought 3 bottles and traded one off so I only have two bottles but I will finish these in less than a month. I should have bought 10. @FDLmold do you a still have these at your store? I’ll take 6 bottles and keep one for yourself. This stuff is rich like butter. Soo good

SMF!

I'll talk to my guy @joeyshin and see how many bottles are on the shelf, and if he can get more. I frequent about 4-5 stores in my area, but only one has ever had these.

I've got two bottles on my "good, close to empty, so kill them as a priority" (pictured). Additionally, I've finally washed, then soaked for days in distilled water, then soaked for weeks in bad bourbon, then rinsed with good bourbon, my old timey ALCOHOL laboratory bottle. So I put what was left of the Makers 101 in it - it is now prepared and safe to be a pretty unique decanter if I do say so myself.

That's darn cool IMO!

My store owner hooked me up today!

Haha, joking. If I want peanut butter in my whiskey, I'll slam some Wild Turkey 101 while eating spoonfuls of peanut butter. It was simply the box I used to carry these:

He's cleaned out now, but I can get more Thursday.

How much do these Lost Monarchs typically go for?
