My latest acquisitions, the Barrell Bourbon was a bit of a letdown at $90. The Yellowstone was pretty tasty at $40..I’m still trying to figure out if the “exclusively selected barrel” is any different than the standard Yellowstone. View attachment 720167
I found the 7 Yr Willett in Rye, my all time favorite whiskey is the 7 Yr Bourbon..I couldn’t bring myself to pay $300 for the Rye though. I see em go for $600-900 online though!

If you poured it for me blind, I would have called it a highland scotch. Peaty in the nose and taste. Not what I would have expected from a bourbon!A 14 year cask strength doesn’t sound too bad for $90 on the Barrell bourbon. Revisit it after a bit, neck pour is real!
If he poured it for you blind he likely missed the glass and spilled a bunch on the counter. If you poured it for me blind, I would have called it a highland scotch. Peaty in the nose and taste. Not what I would have expected from a bourbon!

That probably explains it! I suppose that’s part of the fun of getting into these hand picked single barrels, never know what you are gunna get. There is one Barrell special release that is finished in ex-Islay Malt casks. That is very likely the release you got based on your description.

I've got New Riff BiB, Single Barrel Bourbon and Single Barrel Rye. I love them all.View attachment 720525

Thought I'd pick up the New Riff since it is a store pick. First time with New Riff and only $46. The BT was only $26 so why not?

Let us know what you think. I love the standard rare breed, the rye was a tad too hot for me.Been looking for this forever. I love the WT flavor profiles.
