Kind of a sad day. Just killed a HOF bottle. I hope I find more of this this year. But LOOK at that big fat pour I have to enjoy!

The very best bottles are round (or square I guess, hello Makers Mark). Then the store owners can't justify putting them sideways on the shelf. I see E.C. and K.C. sideways ALL THE TIME (big brands, they can afford it), plus some smaller brands that should have thought about bottle design a little more carefully.

My latest acquisitions, the Barrell Bourbon was a bit of a letdown at $90. The Yellowstone was pretty tasty at $40..I’m still trying to figure out if the “exclusively selected barrel” is any different than the standard Yellowstone.

I found the 7 Yr Willett in Rye, my all time favorite whiskey is the 7 Yr Bourbon..I couldn’t bring myself to pay $300 for the Rye though. I see em go for $600-900 online though!

A 14 year cask strength doesn’t sound too bad for $90 on the Barrell bourbon. Revisit it after a bit, neck pour is real!

If you poured it for me blind, I would have called it a highland scotch. Peaty in the nose and taste. Not what I would have expected from a bourbon!

There is one Barrell special release that is finished in ex-Islay Malt casks. That is very likely the release you got based on your description.

That probably explains it! I suppose that’s part of the fun of getting into these hand picked single barrels, never know what you are gunna get.

Mail call: KO Rye Batch 4 and Paul John Oloroso.

Loved KO Rye Batch 1 and 2, 3 was good, and I'm really looking forward to trying batch 4, the last one. Heard great things about Paul John Oloroso as far as a Sherry Bomb goes. This will be my first Paul John...
