Given how much I enjoy other KC offerings, I was really disappointed in this bottle. Nose was ok, some hints of sweetness & vanillia but the palate was suuuuper oaked (and not in a good way) and way too hot. Very bitter. 100% needed an ice cube, that definitely helped calm the bitterness and bring out more darker base flavors. But overall kind of meh for now, I'll have to see if it calms down after a few weeks/months opened

I hope it does "calm down" or "open up" soon. That is the next KC I am opening, and I have been looking forward to it for a LONG time mang.

Different single barrels. Ours is guaranteed by Freddie Noe himself. ;)

^This^ sometimes you just get an odd barrel with these kinds of offerings. I've heard similar with the Old Forester single barrel barrel proofs, I've read several reviews that drank super hot and "off", the one I found locally was definitely jet fuel, but OMG IMHO it was off-the-walls fantastic, I bought like 4 bottles. Roll of the dice with these store picks I guess.

I've had a few of these KC store picks over the years (they used to come in really ugly paper labeled bottles lol) and they've always been a really great value. Hopefully it opens up, we'll see. It's honestly the first unpleasant dram I can remember having in quite a while. Found this review from earlier this year, this obviously is a different particular barrel but I found the initial experience very similar (once you get past the stupid intro lol):

Finally poured my bottle that’s been open for a few months. To me, it’s worth the $70 price tag. The lower proof is full of flavor but doesn’t pack the punch of my favorite batches: C919, B520 and C920. Still very good.

I think I'm having a pour of this tonight. Meetings at the medical center all day. News isn't looking good............

Thanks for clarifying I was questioning the post.

I didn't even think about it like that. I just assume everyone knows what I do lol. The discussions that are happening right now involve going back to zero visitors except for end of life situations. If this happens, it makes my gig damn near unbearable. Along with the rest of the shitshow that is taking place.
