EXACTLY. I also had to explain that rye was called rye because it was 'mostly made of rye just like bourbon has to be mostly corn' and someone mentioned 'no, it has to be made in bourbon county...'

Forget the USA - I'm moving to Bourbon Country!

I hear that crap all the time "it has to be made in kentucky to be called bourbon" I have even heard it said in discussions in the liquor store.

So I have decided to do a Whiskey Madness tournament. I know I don't have the selection many of you have, but I am gonna work with what I got.

Going to have my wife assign the bottles a label and do the pours. I won't know what anything is until the end when a winner is declared.

Here are the participating whiskies

So make your odds and place your bets!

I'll be doing head to head over the next several weeks and will post final results when done exposing a bracket filled in with names. I'll post notes of each head to head after I do them.

OF 1920 or Weller Antique. My two favorite from this list.

so 1st head to head done.

A8 v A9

Nose was the same on both of these, i just smelt earthy made me think malt.

On the pallet both were citrus on the front, but A8 had a oak throughout and a long finish. A9 was very mellow with no burn which makes me think it is lower proof. Didn't really have a finish. The overall taste was similar except for the oak on A8.

In the end I went with A8 because of the long finish that left my mouth tingling.

A8 advances

Sample 1…Kings County Peated Bourbon

Full disclosure…I do not care for scotch but this is really good! I was completely caught off guard by how intense the classic bourbon flavors were but the smoky, briny component was there as well. The peated component really complements the overall experience. I’m so glad I was intrigued enough to sample this. I’d definitely buy this if I ever run across a bottle of it. Excellent pour!

If they're blind, who holds the key? I would need that in order to pick what I THINK you would pick....

Sample 2…ECBP A122

Yep…this is unmistakably ECBP. It checks all the boxes for a barrel proof, well aged bourbon. It’s definitely not as alcohol forward as previous batches, but to be honest, I kinda welcome that every now and then. Another excellent pour!

Many thanks to @detroitdad for sending me two vastly different, but equally great samples to make my evening a real good one!

That was my last pour.

You're in for a treat on all those pours, some of my favorites in there.
