Well, I've said before I'm not a bourbon fan, but I like the BJ content and I've watched so damn much of it lately that I went and joined their Patreon. They've got some pretty interesting extra stuff, and not that I'd be after it, but the barrel picks are all basically restricted to the higher tiers that are all sold out, so that kinda sucks.

This is my first ever taste of this as it’s also the first bottle of it that I’ve ever seen in a store.

This really brings the heat but it’s not overly obnoxious in doing so! It’s nowhere near as sweet as I was expecting it to be, but it’s very good. After a little rest, it settled in nicely and I’m thoroughly enjoying this!

It will get better too. Every Larceny bottle I’ve had was ok, until I got to the bottom 1/3 or more. Then, I loved them.

Whiskey Madness head to head playin #3

B7 v B8

wow these were both very good.

B8 was minty on the nose and opened up to a nice chocolate also a good ethonol making me think higher proof. On the pallet in had oily mouth feel and spicy finish that left my mouth tingling.
B7 the nose was floral and red fruit. on the pallet it was oaky and dry but had no spice on the finish but left my mouth tingling. I think it also may have been higher proof but really smooth.

I think both of these may have been pulled from my drinker shelf, Maybe one a rye and one a higher proof bourbon.

Either one would have smashed the previous 4 I tried but they ended up head to head and I took b8 as the winner with the better mouth feel.

Have you had anything yet in this blind bracket to where you are certain to what they were? I know I have a few in my cabinet that I’d immediately recognize the second I taste it.

2 so far.

i think A8 could have been 4 roses single barrel because it was so floral and citrus and that is the most floral whiskey I have on my shelf.
Tonight's B8 I kept thinking Pepper distillery single barrel

I could be wrong on both though so who knows lol.

Whiskey Madness

tonights matchups

a1 v a8 and a2 v a3

a1: on the nose a little spice, opens up to some caramel sweetness. On the pallet oak, some red fruit, a nice mouth feel with medium finish.
a8: on the nose floral, citrus, earthy. on the pallet dry, flowery, some spice on the finish. mouth feel isn;t as good
winner: a1

a2: sweetness, brown sugar, caramel. on the pallet mint, tart, oak on the finish, nice finish.
a3: not getting much at all. on the pallet woody, dry, burns going down but not much taste.
winner a2

tonight's old fashioned was made with wild turkey rare breed rye.....outstanding, bottom of the bottle. So far my favs for that drink are (in an undecided order): Whistle pig 6, Stellum, and WTRBR. Your fav ryes for OF's?

My favorite rye for an OF has to be Alberta Premium. There’s not really anything that I’ve had yet that makes one even close that level. After that, I really like OF 100 Rye and Michter’s US-1 SiB rye in an OF. For a bourbon OF, my go to is OGD114.

have you tried Rittenhouse?
That and Old Overholt are both frequent residents in my cabinet. Both are more than adequate for a decent old fashioned and they’re what I’ll use for cocktails on a normal day or whenever I have guests over that want an OF. When I’m treating myself to something special, that’s when I break out the Alberta Premium or other higher end ryes.

Old Overholt 114 also makes a killer OF…if you’re lucky enough to find a bottle of it.
