I am in need of JD single barrel Barrel Proof rye
I wish you the best of luck finding one at retail. I’ve been pursuing that one as well. Unicorn around these parts
That was a limited release. 2020 I believe. All their single barrel rye is 94 proof and they haven't given the barrel proof treatment to them yet. That I know of.
Best of luck indeed. Extremely limited and when they did come out they hit secondary for lots of $$$$

I really hope JD continues to release it because it’s the best whiskey I’ve ever tasted

Sorry @wolfpack. These last two got misplaced in my kitchen and I just found them. I just poured E.

E is vanilla and some kind of sour funk on the noise. Maybe some green grapes too. Smells of youth.

Palate is young oak and vanilla, with a slow build to spice. There is some subtle dried fruit. Dates or figs or raisins. It’s been a while since I’ve had any of these, but that’s where my brain went.

Finish is some real good spice. It’s probably my favorite part of the tasting. The spice lingers for a while. I have to think that this is 100 proof or a little higher.

What is it, Mr. Wolf?

Black Irish Distillers Reserve 4 Grain Cask Strength
4 years old 120 proof

4 grain! That must be the funk. Once I let it sit in the glass longer, it became much more mellow and vanilla. It's pretty good!
I thought it was really good for a young craft distillery, and drank much easier than 120 proof.

Playing catch-up after an insanely busy couple of weeks.

I was at a convention last weekend, and the whiskey selection at the hotel bar left a lot to be desired. They did have one I hadn't tried before: Hudson Whiskey Do the Rye Thing.

To put it kindly, I was underwhelmed. It had a strong, sweet acetone character on both the nose and the palette, and it burned like hell for a 90ish proof. I will definitely not be drinking this one again - bleah.

The only other decent option was Woodford Reserve, which IMO is okay but not one of my favorites. Had a double and it was fine until I got the bill: $24 plus tax and tip! Damn, I could have almost bought a fifth for that!

Totally going off on a flyer here but we will see how it goes.

Tasting notes by Jim McEwan

Colour - Stunning Beguiling Auburn

Aromas – Stunning, opening with all the components singing like a Heavenly choir! The red fruit aromas in harmony with the sweet mellowness of the oak is simply wonderful, and the crispness of the malted Islay barley is the perfect foil. It’s a magical olfactory experience.

The Islay DNA of Atlantic winds and Heather covered peat fields works brilliantly. Matured full term a stone’s throw from the Ocean makes a massive difference to the character and personality of the spirit, as it does to the men who work quietly while the world sleeps. Made in a Distillery where the nearest thing to a computer is the clock on the wall!

What you’re experiencing is with the passage of time a spirit that is wonderful and rare. At this age it’s stunning, all the components are as one; hand crafted, matured full term by the Atlantic in this unique Rivesaltes cask. I created many spirits in my 52 years and this one is rather special, and I know that you will enjoy your time with it, hand made by skilled Distillers with passion and pride!

The left will be for the boys in @DarkHelmet55 game (including myself) the right is more my speed! Around 118 is still my cap so these should be perfect.

Still trying to find "Company" @Jonesey07 but they must keep that stuff locked up in Tennessee brother!
