Traveling through KY & TN next week. Hoping to score a few things not available in the home market.

On my short list:
James E Pepper Single Barrel Rye
New Riff 6yr Malted
Benchmark Fullproof
Smoke Wagon UCUF

Blue Note- what's good?

Nashville Barrel Co.- looks like most of their offerings start at $100. Hype or worth the money?

Anything else I should be looking for?

Blue Note 17 year ideally. They are all good though.

not knocking it as I had dino chicken nuggets and box mac and cheese for dinner, but WTF cut of meat is that?
It’s half of a ribeye, I like the side with the fattier cut

Just popped in to ask a very similar question.

I'll be in the Cincinnati area in a couple weeks, and I plan on taking a day to do some whiskey shopping and likely hit a distillery or two in north Kentucky. New Riff is on the short list - any other suggestions? Looking for a good tour/tasting and the opportunity to perhaps buy some harder-to-find bottles directly.

Also, suggestions on where to shop and what to look for? I'm happy to max out my 5L limit in my checked luggage and/or ship a box or two home if I find bottles that are worth the trouble. I tend to prefer the barrel-proof ryes and high-rye bourbons, though I'll drink pretty much anything of reasonable quality.

Just finished loading the cars up for tomorrow’s college move in for that cutie in the background! Reward time! I’m super excited for the journey she’s about to start, but I’d be lying if I said this coming day won’t be a little bittersweet. She’ll only be 3 hours away, so it won’t be too bad.View attachment 966917

I just loaded up my truck to take my son back to UNCC. His sister is already there and his other sister is at Elon. This is their senior year. Wow, that went by fast. Got to experience empty nest all at once, but it didn't last long when Covid hit 6 months later. Saved me a lot of room and board costs though.

Where is your girl going?

Nashville Barrel Co has a great reputation for having good picks. I have the Ga pick #1 and #2 and the Tater Society Picks unopened but all are suppose to be great

gotcha, looks tasty! My brain just couldn't figure out 'it's half a steak' and went into some kind of loop about what that could possibly.
I’ve been trying to eat smaller quantities lately. Finding as I get older I don’t need the same sized meals as I did in college, plus it leaves more calories for my drinks ;)

She’s going to Wingate University. It’s gonna take some time for us to adjust to having the house all to ourselves

If you’re going to New Riff for a tasting you have to hit the Party Source superstore right beside New Riff. When we were there last month, they had plenty of great ryes on the shelf…Willett and Rare Breed just to name a few. They have a TON of whiskey there! They have their own website that has most of their inventory on it but they also had a few really good bottles that weren’t on the site. @Indyscammer picked up a couple of bottles of Russells Reserve Private Barrel that were outstanding!

I agree with Byron, if you go to New Riff you have to hit party source. I'll be there tomorrow.

One NY strip is good for me, the wife and kid! Older I get, less room there is...
Yea those two steaks were enough for a family of 5 (kids are younger) and we still have some leftover steak. We probably ate more sides than we did steak.
