I use one ice cube in sweet whiskeys, or my 135 proof bottle. Otherwise neat.
Ultimately, as Paulo said. Drink it gourmet you want to.
I am a HUGE fan of Kentucky Mules...but I couldn't do it with a bottle over $60 or so. I did have a few this summer with Elijah Craig barrel proof. They were so delicious!I think I like bourbon cocktails more than straight bourbon.

Which barrel? I've come to love the 135 proof. I can't find it around here at a reasonable price. I probably only have one drink left in the bottle. I drink it with one ice cube.
The EC 124 is pretty damn good. I drink that neat. If I'm drinking a Kentucky Mule I usually use Buffalo Trace.
135 is at BevMo here, but our taxes are RIDICULOUS!

I like a good cocktail as well, I just don’t have any time for them. Too many good whisky/whiskeys around for me to try instead.
At a bar with no great selection, a Whiskey Smash fits the bill fine!!

Can't say I have visited this thread before or what it is about. But if anybody is looking for a decent value whiskey, I have to recommend Tin Cup as my go-to right now. Doesn't have the complexity of some of your guy's top shelf stuff, but great to have at a party/poker night. I'll buy it over Jack any day of the week.

The 107 is quite good straight IMO, or with a TSP of still water.
But ultimately Paulo is right, however you best enjoy it. If that's over a large rock, completely acceptable.
I'd personally choose a cheaper handle for anything mixed (ginger ale, mule, coke, sour, etc.)
When we were down in Cali this summer I really had to restrain myself at the Costco. WA and OR suck for drinkers
