Think I'll be headed to the local Aldi's tomorrow...

I have that bottle—I feel like you and I discussed it previously in this thread. It is good, but not sure it deserved the award it received.

Edit: maybe we didn’t specifically discuss it, but here was my post:

How's the Peerless taste? I saw some bottles at my local place and wasn't sure if it was worth a buy.
Haven't opened it yet, will be sure to post when I do! I've got too many open bottles as it is, made it a goal to kill some bottles before opening new ones.

I told myself the same thing. I have half a dozen bottles that are getting close to being done and I need to finish them off to make space.

Ok after a thorough inventory, I discovered the only bourbon I have open is WT longbranch, so I can open a bourbon I've decided. Help me choose. All are new to me (I may have had a pour of EHT but don't remember) and in general I haven't been a big bourbon guy, mostly Scotch and recently really been enjoying Rye but it's hard to get a variety of stuff here. My go to bourbons are usually WT 101 and ECSB, although I think I'm liking the longbranch more than 101. Really like Weller 107 (have a bottle thanks to @Saoliver that I'm saving for a special occasion).

EHT, Calumet 15, ECBP, Smoke Wagon Uncut, Peerless high Rye bourbon, 2XO innkeeper's blend

There’s no bad choice in that lineup!

Can't argue with this guy, he has steered me right at every turn.

Nose: Oaky, cherry, honey, vanilla and spice
Taste: Oak very present but not overwhelming, caramel, cherry, I want to say leather? but pleasant
Finish: Lingering, threatens to get hot but doesn't go too far, I'm getting most of the sweetness on the back end in a toffee like flavor following up with Rye spice

Overall pretty good, the deeper I get into it the more I like it. First sip impression was "It's decent, not sure it's worth the price tag". While I enjoyed it more on the back half of the pour, I think that initial thought holds up. This would be a staple at $60 for me, at the $95 I paid it might be worth a second bottle to hold onto for an occasional pour. They just started carrying this locally, but at $150 :/

You’ll like it even more as you get through it. That cherry is delicious.

Try the 2XO next and let me know what you think. I got a bottle recently and have tried it 3 different times and enjoyed each time.

I'm going to argue for the EC Barrel Proof. It's one of the gold standards of full proof bourbon for its price, and no bourbon life is even close to getting started until you've tried some of it.

I’ll join you! I need a new bottle. My level is at the word “Proof.” Luckily, my Total Wine has it for $99 (plus tax).
