Open the ‘09 and grab that sample of the 2010 I sent you and blind them :cool

The 2010 is incredible

That’s a good idea. I think I still have it!

Tonight’s lineup. The Senator and Prideful Goat are both 6yr MGP 95/5 ryes, so I’m looking forward to comparing them. And then I’ll compare the two KCs. :cool

I better eat some dinner. Giddy up!

The Senator is very good. I get like orange slices candy on the nose. The palate is red berry and rye spice. A little thin on the finish.

The Prideful Goat is wow. Flavor bomb of graham cracker and toffee and spice. It’s big and bold and dark, but really balanced. Hard to believe it is the same whiskey as the Senator. Maybe it’s the blending and higher proof.

I keep eyeing up that Prideful Goat on the Bourbon Outfitters site...worth adding to my "already paid for" shipping order?

Onto the KC ryes.

The 2009 is very good. Classic KC rye with that signature Beam nuttiness sprinkled in. With the age, the oak is turnt up, but it’s not too drying.

Now the 2010… fuuuuuuuuuck. It takes like 8 twists and turns. I’m gonna need to spend some quality time with it. I get cherry and Red Hots candy and baking spice. And a weird effervescence on the finish that is so interesting. A good amount of oak that is lovely. I REALLY like this one. Thank you for the sample @Billy Baroo. And thank you @Pinkdan for convincing me to get this bottle from you.

Macallan down. My new rule is not opening a new bottle til I kill one of the same variety. Lagavulin distiller's edition or Glenmorangie 14 port cask next on the scotch list.

I absolutely love that 2010 KC. I get a ton of black jellybeans/anise on both the palate and the finish. If it’s not the best rye I’ve ever had, it’s easily top 3. Glad you enjoyed it!

Edit…I’m jealous that you have a full bottle of it lol. I had 2 bottles of it and I got half of the second one left.

What's the longest you ever had a bottle last recently? I have an over/under in my head. I'm curious!

Lol I noticed you drink quickly. Was going to guess 6 months for a “special” bottle.
6 months is about spot on for bottles that I really want to stretch out and drink sparingly. With NC being the whiskey wasteland that it is, I rarely get bottles that I really consider special enough to stretch out any further.

My entire collection is now going to age untouched for at least 9 months while I attempt to get some health issues under control. I’ll have to live vicariously thru the good people here in this thread :cool

On Islay for the next few days for the festival.

Got started with a small dram of Caol Ila distillery exclusive in the small bar right when you arrive at Askaig. Big fan of the 12 year and loved this cask strength expression.

Spent the afternoon wandering Bowmore and with a few drams at Bowmore distillery including their incredible 25-year distillery exclusive. Not sure I’ll grab a bottle at £490 each but if I don’t it’ll be because I worked hard to resist it.

Finished the day with a couple drams of Jura that were new me. The Bay and Old Tide. I got great notes of caramel and vanilla on both and enjoyed the higher proof and maturity of the Old Tide but it certainly needed some water to open it up which I usually don’t find I need.

Very excited for the open day at Bruichladdich tomorrow and Caol Ila on Monday!
