Out of town and missing my Day #8, but will post day 7 notes today.
Day 1: Elements of Islay, Cask Edition, 46%. Light smoke and salt on the nose, palate hits with campfire smoke and a touch of fruit (apple). Overall 7/10
Day 2: Big Peat, 46%. Peat, cinnamon, and hints of spice on the nose. Char, earth, nuts, chocolate and gobs of smoke that linger for a long while. Overall 8/10.
Day 3: Loch Lomond Peated Single Grain Whisky, 46%. Nose is orange, berry, and smoke. Palate tastes sweet with hints of lemon and grass. Finish lingers of smoke. Overall 5/10.
Day 4: Amrut Peated Single Malt Whisky, 46%. The smell of campfire and soot hit me the minute I opened this one up. Further lingering gives apricot. Tasting brings a surprise front end of fruit, Oak while the finish leaves a delightful reminder of peat, smoke, and sweetness. Overall a very pleasant surprise. 9/10
Day 5: Torabhaig Allt Gleann The Legacy Series, 46%. Nose starts off with the sea and continued with sweet fruity notes that I couldn't pinpoint (later found out pear). The taste is light, floral, and airy with notes of vanilla and fruit. It finishes with sea salt and caramel. This dram seems young, but very balanced. 7/10
Day 6: The Glenturret 10 yr. Old Peat Smoked (2021 release), 50%. Well, we broke the 46% barrier tonight! First smell brings orange, sweetness, and salt. This dram tastes of malt, peat and cinnamon. It finishes with smoke and tones of cinnamon. While this is a solid complex whisky this one just didn't hit me quite right. 6/10.
Day 7: Inchmoan Island Collection, 12 year, 46%. This one smells of oaky honey and sweetness. First taste brings on vanilla, apples and cinnamon (apple pie a la mode like, yum). The finish is stronger and heavier than expected with rich flavors of citrus and honey. Overall a good dram that finishes better than it starts. 7/10.
