Reaffirming that this bottom shelfer is as good as I thought it was last weekend.

Now I want to find some “not cheap” Willett bourbon to see if it’s as good as the green top rye.

Got a question for the scotch enthusiasts…I am looking for a decent mid range scotch ($40-$60ish) to get for my 80 year old mom’s neighbor. Every winter he shovels/snowblows her steps and driveway after each heavy snowfall. His son tells me that he hates JW Black and mainly drinks Cutty Sark. Any suggestions as I’m told by his son that he’s pretty much a bottom shelf kind of guy lol

A little more than $60, but very easy drinking and comes In a cool bottle in a gift tube...

Hard to recommend Scotches as they are way too diverse, especially on the Single Malt front. If one compares extremes, they can barely be recognizable as being part of the same Single Malt Scotch category.

Since he likes blends and Cutty Sark in particular, I'd suggest Cutty Sark Prohibition. It's below your price point but more than your regular bottom shelf blend. And higher proof (50% abv). Among the cheap blends, this one is hard to beat imo.

Day 8: Ledaig Rioja Cask Finish Sinclair Series, 46.3%. Nose on this one quickly hits of peat, pepper, leather, and cherry. Tasting this beautifully colored dram brings to the forefront black pepper, apples and cherry. The finish isn't long with tannins and salt. 7/10.

Day 9: Caisteal Chamuis, 46%

Day 9: Caisteal Chamuis, 46%. This is the second Torabhaig distillery offering in the box. First look and smell reminds me of Laphroaig. Peaty campfire with hints of vanilla and caramel. This drams tastes of salt, tannins and oak with a surprise lemon quality. The finish is smokey and brings back the vanilla offering. 8/10

Day 10: Rock Island Island Malt Scotch Whisky, 46.8%
