A bit of reflection on the dry spell, if nothing but for my own notes down the road. I believe several of you incorporate a dry month or two into your enjoyment of the hobby; and for anyone who doesn't, I would encourage you to give it a try.
Outside of the personal / reflective reasons during the season which I wont get into, there are a few nice benefits of taking a bit of time off. It can reveal a number of interesting things. First is obviously the health benefits, especially if you (like me) have gotten a little over indulgent in the hobby, which can pretty easily happen. When I used to do these earlier in life, there was a bit of "just checking to make sure I CAN stop" thoughts

. I personally am incredibly lucky in that I'm fairly resistant to substance addiction - I smoked in college, and quit pretty much cold turkey upon graduating, and in general I've found that the booze is not a physical issue. What I have found is that I do really miss it, but not necessarily for the booze, but I love
everything about the hobby. The chase, relaxing with a nice glass and really tasting each dram, getting together with friends to enjoy a bottle. Taking that away for a month or two is a nice reminder of how lucky we are to be able to indulge in the hobby in a regular basis.
