I flew to London in 1989 with a bottle of Wild Turkey and a bottle of Cuervo (I was 21) in my packed bag. Didn't turn out well...
For domestic flights, you can legally pack up to 5 liters of alcohol per person in checked baggage as long as it’s under 140 proof and sealed in its factory packaging/wrapper. Whether they check closely for any of those criteria is probably a crapshoot. My guess is that an opened bottle probably gets thru especially if it’s wrapped up properly to protect it during transit.

International flights also follow those same regulations but customs declarations/rules also need to be adhered to depending on the direction the alcohol is going. I have no clue what the rules were back in 89 but I’m guessing you probably violated them  :ROFLMAO:

Anyone sitting on a bottle of Mortlach 16 Flora and Fauna that you want to part with?

Huge fan of Mortlach but don't have the F&F. Curious as to why you're looking for this specific bottle, Scott. I'll keep my eyes open...

Sampled it last night and really liked it, and would like to give it a few more rounds, but told it’s harder to find now a days….at least at a fair price

Best reason for seeking out a bottle, for sure! Yes, it's hard to find. I didn't think they had released it since early '10s but it seems there's a '20 release. Mortlach has now an official 16yo release that should be pretty close to the F&F (other than the F&F being distilled mid-'90 most likely), around a hindi. My guess you'd pay 3x that for the F&F, for the collectability of it...

No problems with customs. Plastic cap on the tequila was definitely a problem. I got a lot of looks on the train from Gatwick to Leeds.

One of my poker buddies walked in with this bottle at the last game and handed it over. "Someone gave this to me and it's terrible, but I figured you'd drink it!"

Well, maybe about the terrible thing he was lol. It's definitely different than your typical Irish, drinks more like a scotch and I do like sherry cask finishes. Very nice for a low octane start to the evening.

One of my white whales. Passed on it at £32 one year visiting my in-laws in London, then the supply completely dried up. Still looking.
