That B523 turns into a monster after it breathes a little. For me, it was the best bottle of 23 until ECBP C923 came along and ruined it for every bottle released last year. The ECBP A124 is really good too. Slightly off typical EC profile but still very recognizable. Solid batch!

Agreed on all points, LBP B523 was my favorite last year, I'm so glad I was able to grab a few.

But speak of the devil....

Very similar, these were even cheaper lol

Limited-time deal: JoyJolt Crystal Whiskey Glasses, Set of 2 – 7.8 Oz. Rocks Glasses for Neat or Mixed Drinks – Lowball Whiskey Tumbler Cocktail Glasses with Unique S-Curved Shape – Whiskey Glass Set https://a.co/d/ix3GXxh

Solid glasses, just a hair bigger than a glencairn, but more substantial / heavier.
From that pic it looks like the base is less substantial than the Viski.

We'll need a comprehensive comparative review of the two in June. Bring your A-game dude. ;) :p

Normally $500 bottles are not something I can mess around with, but circumstances allowed this to happen (it helps to know people in importing and distribution with a sample bottle). I want to not like it because of the stupid price tag but it is stunning. If I’m drinking Irish whiskey I tend to go Single Pot Still but this is probably the best Irish Single Malt I’ve ever had. Rich, spicy (in spite of the low points they give it for this), and far more complex than I’m used to in this style.

Sigh.... so this is the bottle I meant to crack open last night, not the 523...  I can't even blame the booze because I had all the bottles lined up before I started lol.

I found this release to be much more subdued than those from last year. Very nice nose, sweet vanilla and some cola notes, similar but drier on the palate with some added cinnamon, but not a lot of oak/barrel/spice. Imho it drinks way below its proof, I found it a very pleasant sipper, but lacks that vibrancy and punch from last year. Good but not a "run out and buy more" kinda bottle.

My palate may just be way off though, because every other review I've seen has said the exact opposite....

I got the exact opposite of what you got, but I am in complete agreement with you on it being good but not worthy of being a bottle I’ll hunt for a backup of.

It drank very hot and spicy to me with the usual notes being covered up by said spice/heat.

Yeah and I've seen several reviews noting your exact description. I'd be super curious to hear your thoughts after it sits a bit. I poured just a bit of the B523 from last night to compare today and it's already vastly calmed down (that was actually my biggest shock this morning upon looking back and realizing the mistake, because the B523 was one of my favorites last year and last nights sample didnt come anywhere near that), the neck pour seems to be a big thing for this bottle.

I didn't get all the subtleties he describes nor the final conclusion, but agreed in that this was a great sipper - check out this review.....

Pretty much mirrors my thoughts on all Larceny BPs. The neck pour is almost always not representative of what the bottle will turn into. B523 wasn’t great out of the gate for me either and pour 1 from A124 didn’t impress. C922 was the only batch where I loved it from the get go.

Larceny BPs tend to calm down a ton very quickly for me.

The 2022 is pretty good. I’ve had a few pours. I have the 2023 (135th anniversary) unopened, but I’ve had it out at the bar. It’s excellent.

I had the 2023 at the distillery bar and it's fantastic. I am hopefully getting a bottle.
