Gotta disagree with you there, Mike. We've got plenty of great young talent to be able to cope without Bale — we started so slowly today and I think that was just down to nerves.

Tony, agree that match fitness is a big concern for both players, but I'd be hesitant about ever leaving Bale on the bench. He only needs one free kick or long-range shot to change a game, so I wouldn't ever want to be without him at a World Cup game.
You definitely do, but nowhere near the level of peak Bale. As you say though, Bale at his peak was world class and produced so many clutch moments for club and country, and still is.

You are always going to lose a lot without him, same as England do (but to a lesser extent with Kane (or tottenham as a better example) the penalty specialist).

I didn't mean it as a knock, though I do enjoy the Bales joke lol so I can't help myself. Your squad is definitely solid, but it's not world class and that's just the reality of being a smaller country in terms of population. I've enjoyed seeing Wales do well recently, especially with the Ramsey connection myself, and I hope you guys can keep it up without those two big names.

Kiefer Moore needs to start though, he's look dangerous everytime I see you guys play.

Yeah, why Moore didn't start today was beyond me. He's been brilliant recently and you've got to start your in-form players, in my opinion.

Never actually heard the Bales joke before — tickled me! Agree with all of the above, so let's just hope Wales and England both make it through now.

This may have only been on the american feed, but it was too humerous not to call out. The commentators basically said that they didn't seriously prepare for that outcome at all. They expected the score to be 6-0 not 1-2.

That second goal was one of the best I've seen scored so far this tournament.

We scored a couple of nice ones yesterday too tbf. Sako and Sterling in particular.

Argentina is a weird football team.

Whenever public opinion is they will do well, they fluke

Whenever public opinion is they can’t even get past group stage, they step up

It like it’s their nature to always proof the doubter wrong

Similarly it can also be apply to England

Little wonder they are the Football Rivals

Almost as if there was a large amount of money to be won by betting against them… ;)

Was fun watching the Japan game! They impressed me. Same with the Canadian team. Undeservingly Belgium won that match, but I did enjoy watching the spirit of the Canadians.
