Paulson Chip Worth? (4 Viewers)

I remember you trying to unload these, Couga.

It took me forever to reassemble this set, after Couga sent them to the four corners of the earth in a weak moment of bad decision-making. His 1700-chip purchase was from a police auction site. The 20th Century chips had previously been confiscated in a SWAT raid of an illegal gambling house located in the Northeast suburbs of Atlanta. Located near the Sugarloaf Country Club in Duluth GA, the "Sugarloaf game" as it was called was well known and respected in local poker circles. I was a regular at that game, knew the game operators, dealers, and players; they held cash games (mostly 1/2 NLHE) nearly every day/night of the week, and a weekly four-table NLHE tournament. Three or four cash game tables was not uncommon after the tournament. I was not present the night they were busted only by a stroke of luck.

The chips have a special meaning to me, as I actually played with them at the Sugarloaf game in the mid 2000's. Most of the chips in my set are from Couga's 1700-pc lot. I've managed to find a few other 20th Century racks here and there to add to it, as well..... but this is the first time I've run across anybody who also has a significant number of them.

My breakdown is roughly:
800 x $1
625 x $5
550 x $25
275 x $100
plus around 800 add-on semi-custom chips

Always looking for more.

If you see half your hips you could buy a custom set quite easily :) Like I and others have said, now is a good time to sell. If you aren't going to collect them and don't have a need for 2000 chips in a single set, it doesn't seem to make a whole lot of sense to hold on to them unless you believe GPI will never get back in the maker and nobody else will step in to create competition with CPC.
Honestly, I could part with these easily, but like I said may custom CPC set will run me around 10-12,000 dollars easily & here's why...

I want a full crap table bank as if it was a downtown casino which would be as follows:
$30,000 in black chips = 300 pcs @ $100 Denom.
$25,000 in green Chips = 1000 @ $25 Denom
$8,000 in red chips = 1,600 @ $5 Denom
$800 in white chips = 800 @ $1

Then of course my cash/tourney set for poker and 1,000 chips for the Blackjack bank

Damn man...having a personal connection to a set is cool and you MUST pry these from his hands. :D

So wait. This club used a fantasy set of chips? They weren't concerned with security? I don't know much about these specific chips, but were they readily available to purchase by anyone?

Just woke up and missed the action on this. I presume that Dave's blood pressure may have returned to normal by now but I'm not a Doctor.

These are beautiful chips and I've wanted a set badly, but figured there are none out there and I'm not a fantasy chip lover. If they were mine, I'd try my best to use them as trade bait to get something special in casino chips. I'm of the opinion that they are the most desired of all the Paulson fantasy line. There are a few people here who may pony up some big bucks if you did sell. I don't see they value going higher than they are worth today and if PGI re enters the home chip game, they won't be worth those epic numbers ever again.

If it were me I'd trade for another set of casino chips or sell them to @BGinGA

I have no horse in this race, but I would suggest selling the 21 century's to BG to at least partially finance your custom set. The likelihood that Paulson will come back into the market is slim. They will never offer fully custom chips like CPC. They won't likely offer fantasy sets that they previously created. Right now is a prime time to sell. We have seen fantasy Paulson sets double in value recently. I see it peaking soon, since fully custom CPCs are roughly the same price.

I have no custom CPC chips (well, a shit-ton of samples of some of the nicest custom chips ever made, nearly all from the talented and friendly folks that post on PCF). But I have yet to pull the trigger on my own custom set(s).

I do, however, have several real casino Paulson chip sets, several of which are arguably nicer and unquestionably more expensive and more scarce than the 20th Century fantasy Paulson chips. Always willing to listen to trade offers....

Damn you guys!!! Just made my CPC set with the "Tool"

At first you had my curiosity.

...Always willing to listen to trade offers...

But now you have my attention.

click on each chip as you finish them and "save new" they will appear at the bottom as you go. When you have all you want, then hit "save as PNG" on the left menu, select all chips and then it will generate an image. Screen shot it and upload...

Your first 4 chips would like this

Get samples -- you need CPC mold samples (CPC molds have different features and they all look, feel, and sound differently) and you need CPC color samples (actual chip colors differ from what appears on your screen). The cost of samples is insignificant when compared to the amount of money involved in actually producing a chip set, and is a small price to pay to ensure that you will actually like the chips you order once they are received. CPC chips are very nice -- some molds better than others, imo -- but they do not look, feel, or sound like vintage heavily-leaded Paulson chips.

The importance of getting samples before you finish the design phase (much less actually order) cannot be overstated.

Good luck with your custom chips venture...just give us advance warning if those 20th Century will be on sale so we can sell the kids...I mean get our finances in order.

Thanks @BGinGA that's some really solid advise. Still thinking between CPC & GOCC. Erica @ GOCC is awesome!!! Just gotta make a choice on which company i want to go with

Really nice fantasty set.

My 2 cents : except if you're personally attached to your chips, Paulson Fantasy lines market is definitely a seller market. And still will be until GPI ever decide to come back on the home market. However I think these current prices are the cap price. Or not far... But again, I don't consider emotional buyings in this thought.

Of course, they are your chips - which means you get to decide what you'd like to do with them, and yes the colors are nice, but if you're contemplating selling them to get something you'd like more, I would encourage it. You could put them on auction here, and you'll probably get top dollar for them. There's probably at least a few buyers here that have starter sets of these, who would love nothing more than to add on to their current sets and make a monster sized set.

Unless you have some emotional tie to these or if you just think they're epic chips that you don't want to see go of course. Especially if you think Paulson will return to sell to the public again. In which case, they're certain to drop in value, whereas the price of CPC customs will only increase with inflation.

My two cents

Nice set Charlie...

The .50c goes really nice with this set.

I only have 500 chips.

Custom chips may prove to be unsalable at anything close to what you paid for them. It depends on how the set is designed and how personalized the images are. Take the time to be sure the chips you order are the ones you dream about. As soon as you put your name, initials, etcetera on a chip you start limiting the potential resale market.
