Paulson Chip Worth? (2 Viewers)

charlie, your brain and thoughts are (understandably) going a million miles and hour in at least as many different directions. i know it's exciting and exhilarating. but slow down a bit. take a deep breath...inhaaaaaale aaaaand exhaaaaaaaale. ahhhh. now again. inhaaaaaaaaale aaaaand exhaaaaaaaale. there. that's better.

there is a lot to take into consideration when diving into the custom chip scene. i'm far from the most tenured or knowledgeable chipper but i've been in the game for a while. the two vendors you mention, GOCC and CPC offer two completely different products. several folks around here prefer clays over ceramics (or vice versa), some like both, and some like neither. please take some time do search around here. there are TONS of valuable threads with folks' opinions and experiences. you're probably not the first person to have the same question. don't be afraid to ask questions though. we're (generally) a helpful and friendly bunch :)

the best thing you can do right now is get samples. CPC has mold samples available and color samples available. GOCC should be able to provide you with samples as well. i'm pretty sure someone already recommended this in this thread but it's worth repeating.

oh, and since you asked for pics of custom CPC sets ;)

No worries, however, you are now required to bring this entire set to Aspen Park Aug. 4-6 for the Denver meet up. I'll be working on the official invite today as Scott sent event chip pics to me!!!
Well, I WAS enjoying this thread... I feel like I was watching an old home-recorded VHS version of an awesome movie that got cut off at the best part of the film to find it had been recorded over a homemade sex tape of a girl I'm dating and my best friend.

First weekend in August is the ONLY weekend i absolutely can not make it :(

Yeah I knew that going in but have no options. The following two weekends are my wife's 50th and dad's 80th. Then I'm back to the sand pit.

Hey, @BGinGA, you keep posting about "semi-customs" but no pr0n! What are we talking about here? Relabels, CPC, ceramic, china clay?

Links advice is solid. I think we all see how excited you are getting. Discovering your chips are valuable, and pricing you into a nice set of customs, or casino Paulsons... But on the custom front, the best advice is to slow down...

Once you get customs, you're locked into that set. It will decrease in value (like a new car driven off the lot). No one is going to pay you more for a set you designed, when they can get their own custom set for less.

Now, if you have unlimited funds, who cares, custom away! But if you're concerned with money, and this seems to be the premise of your original post, then you might want to hold off on the customs?

It's been stated by many, that your chip tastes (and likes) will most likely evolve over time. I don't know a single person on this forum that can say their chip tastes have remained the same from when they first started down this rabbit hole until now... This is evident by the vast diversity of custom sets exampled. They are very different in look and feel. Getting a great artist and advice from the forum members is a great start.

However, I could easily see you rushing into a CPC set, then once you attend a few meetups and see examples (hands on) of other custom chips (or get a few different playable Paulson sets), your tastes will certainly evolve. Then that set you designed early on, might appear pretty 'meh' to you, or be a complete diversion from where your tastes have gone.

Who knows tho, maybe you're rush into a CPC set, and design an epic set that will forever go down in history as "the best set ever"?

Either way, posting pics of your chips, your chip purchases, tables, and general poker related stuff along the way is a MUST!

No probs. First weekend in August is something my whole fam looks forward to the entire year so I'll have no withdrawel during the Meetup anyways... It'll just be two weeks later when I feel like I should be somewhere else ;)

Hey guys!! Thank you VERY much for your advice & your absolutely right. I really need to just calm the fuck down!! Sorry for the French. But Ya, I was playing with my Paulson's & I gotta tell Ya guys, it just feels Sooooo much better than a ceramic or those Chinese clay chips. I've been to the Gambler's General Dtore here in Vegas and although they offer customs, it will never be as good as the feel & craftsmanship as a Pailson chip. After that thought I finally realized that I really want a custom Paulson set. A set that may never ever exist. I'm sure every other member has that same dream. Until then all I is my Paul's and when I purchased those a while back I never knew what I had till you guys helped me. And with a humble heart I say thank you very much for your guys knowledge and expertise. So with that being said I'm going to just step back take a deep breath, shuffle ten of my beautiful Paulson chips and be greatful to say that I am one of the proud owners of Paulson chips. Much Mahalo for your support guys

Oh!! Btw @slisk250 how much chips was that in the pic you sent me for the craps set. Also,I found BBO as my supplier for my poker table. But do you know any good custom crap table companies as good as BBO is to poker tables?

Ya, Paulson's sure are nice chips. But wait til you get your hands on some TRKs! You'll likely have a change of heart :) There are a couple of great TRK Rounders sets on the block right now...

I just got the BBO X2 Mini table with the dining top. It's a fantastic table! The finish on the top is delicate though. Be careful not to scratch it if you're getting one.

7700+ and No. If I was buying a table I'd try to get a used Vegas casino table for the coolness factor.

No @RainmanTrail your evil!!! Trk?? Do they have a website? Or can you send me links to pictures of TRK's?

Example of TRK KGB/Rounders set (NOT for sale :) )

Ya, I would get that too. The Rivera just closed down about a month & a half ago and The Gambler's General Store had a crap table from them but wanted close to $6,000 for the table. On a $25min casino night I could make that money back in an hour but I don't have the funds for a custom chip set more less a full size genuine crap table. But mark my words. I WILL get one. I WILL…

I've been to the Gambler's General Dtore here in Vegas and although they offer customs...

This is technically true - they do offer customs - but the customs they offer are little more than stamped or labeled dice chips. Not quite that bad, but not much better. When we refer to customs here, it's almost exclusively custom-labeled china clays, custom ceramics, custom-labeled Paulsons (note these are not the same as custom inlaid Paulsons...we're just taking custom labels and placing them directly over the Paulson-made inlay), or CPC-made chips.

The most recent batch of links_strong chips was a bit of a surprise to me as well. They are oversized (1 1/16" ??) inlays whereas the previous version and my Three Putt Poker cash and tourney sets have 7/8" inlays. I can't remember if I asked for the larger inlays on this re-order or not...? Either way, I kind of like having the two different batches, both are cool in their own way :)

Thank you for the kind words :)

Ya, it's interesting. There's a definite ridge from the inlays to the edges. I kind of like it though. Different from the other A molds I've seen. Also, the inlays are softer.

Ok guys. I'm ready to part with a small part of my collection. I'm gonna be selling 4 tubes (20stack) of my Paulson chips. I'm asking for a price of $400 firm. I'm going to use this $400 to buy me a custom set of GOCC chips of only 250 count. I will ONLY accept PayPal. Here's a picture for those of you who forgot Serious inquiries only. This will be my only time EVER that I'll be selling these Paulys. Inbox me if you are interested.
