They were excellent! I find that aging tends to really mellow out a nice maduro, it dials back the rich, heavier chocolate and black cherry notes, and you get more spice and tobacco and cedar and other notes; it gets a little more balanced and IMHO complex.
Those who really like the boldness of a fresh maduro will likely not prefer a stick with lots of age, they're nowhere near as strong. My Dad joined us and he's not a big fan of Nicaraguan/maduro sticks, and he was impressed.
This was my son's first cigar, he handled it well and seemed to enjoy it
