PCF Cigars (11 Viewers)

Special smoke tonight. I bought this box ~17ish years ago, a few months after my son was born. They're one of my favorites, Padron '64 torpedo maddies:

Reserved for milestone moments during my two boys lives. My oldest graduated high school last week (he finished 8th in the class), so we shared the first few cigars from the box :)

Holy shit! I wish I had self-discipline like that. Do you remember what you paid for it 17 years ago?

I'm guessing it's comparable to TCR prices for mint secondary PCAs after 6 months of inventory post-initial sale vs. Windwalker prices today.

I'm sitting here watching Netflix, smoking an RP Vintage 1990, and drinking Old Grand Dad 114, and I thought I was having a good night. Also, I went to tap another Two Hearted Ale from the kegerator and it just ran out on me.

I might have to look for a good robusto and a pour of Larceny Barrel Proof for a nightcap. Was thinking about just going to bed, but I can't after seeing
your pic.

Haha, it was definitely cheaper but we're talking non-cubans, so I don't think it was that drastic of a price difference. I'll have to check later.

I was just using some hyperbole for effect. How were they with that age on them?

You are lucky to be able to share them with your son. My son won't go near smoke. In fact, he will not go through the garage anymore where I usually smoke. lol

They were excellent! I find that aging tends to really mellow out a nice maduro, it dials back the rich, heavier chocolate and black cherry notes, and you get more spice and tobacco and cedar and other notes; it gets a little more balanced and IMHO complex.

Those who really like the boldness of a fresh maduro will likely not prefer a stick with lots of age, they're nowhere near as strong. My Dad joined us and he's not a big fan of Nicaraguan/maduro sticks, and he was impressed.

This was my son's first cigar, he handled it well and seemed to enjoy it

Nice! My first cigar was a Cuban and I drank a bunch of different stuff at a Halloween party in Chicago. It was 10/31`and I wore shorts that night in the Windy City it was that warm. Needless to say, I threw up that night.

I started smoking cigars again and this cigar has always been my favorite. Anyone have any good cigar recommendations for me to try?

The much beloved Olivia Serie V (also Ecuadorian wrapper) or the mainstay Arturo Fuente 8-5-8 (also Dominican binder and filler) are what immediately come to mind. Should both be much better sticks (imho) without breaking the bank.

So there is a decent cigar and whisky bar not far away from me. The wife and baby are staying an extra ten days on holiday with the family as I go back to work.
Any reccomendations for a cigar for a first timer?

I have fond memories of the smell of cigars from a late uncle and always wanted to smoke one in his honour.

Anything mild, they will know what to recommend.

Macanudo Cafe, Perdomo Champaign, Padron 7000 or 8000, Casa Magna Connecticut

I agree with all the choices above. I'd only add that a Davidoff for your first cigar would be nice.

2009 salmones and 2019 esplendidos. Splendid. In for 40, out for 70.

If you're ever in Vegas, at the Palazzo/Venetian, back of the HL room there is a cigar room. Very nice and and luxurious.

They have cigars but as you would expect its a small selection at 3X retail. I would suggest bringing your own stick and just ordering some drinks. They are not comped but if you're gambling at the casino and need a nice stogie and cocktail break, this is the spot.
