PCF Cigars (22 Viewers)

So, since I’ve moved, I’ve noticed that my preferred deck (with sun and view) can get quite windy.

Overall, I’m finding that it’s just too hard to smoke there. The burn seems particularly uneven. I presume this is obvious to you vets, but should smoking a cigar in windy conditions be avoided?

Nah, don't avoid it - just touch up the burn a few times. Life is too short to avoid smoking

Not that I need an excuse, but today being my last day in my job – followed by two weeks off before starting a new one on much more money – seemed like a good one:

@BlueChipSpecial Okay, I like these more than I thought. I’m a nerd, I like data. Only complaint at all is I have to go all the way downstairs to get in Bluetooth range because my wife keeps the house so damn warm that a closet in the basement is the only room cold enough.
I know the system is expensive, so the thought of shelling out more $ isn't appealing, but I really like the gateway. Makes it so I don't have to be within Bluetooth range to get data. Also makes it possible to get alerts on the status of my collection when I am out of house.

I have accumulated a lot of cigars in the last year and more are on the way so I am considering these. Which one is this and how much are we talking? I am less interested in indulging my inner data nerd, and more interested in keeping the hundreds of cigars in ideal shape.

yeah, but I'd have the same problem with instead of my phone having to get close enough, I'd have to get the gateway close enough. Through a couple of coincidences, the wireless router along with most of the other network stuff in my house is in the upper front corner room on the south side of my house. The place I store my cigars is on the bottom western corner room. So two floors and an exterior wall between the two spaces. Bluetooth isn't going to work and the wifi down there is pretty sketchy.

Gotcha. There are always the new wifi mesh systems that will extend your wifi, but that's a lot of money just to get wifi somewhere for just this purpose.

Regardless, glad to hear that you are enjoying the sensorpush system.

What happened was that basically right when covid started we began having problems with our internet access in our house. Obviously you couldn't get anyone out to your house and I'm not sure I'd trust some random residential ISP tech anyways, but I isolated it down to an issue between the ONT and my wireless router. Not surprising given the internal cabling in the house is a patchwork dumpster fire. So instead of fishing a new patch through my house I just temporarily ran a low profile cable through a bedroom window frame and moved my wireless router into that room. 30 months later and I've never moved it.

I'm still trying to convince my wife to let me deal with my house the way I want and get much better coverage. Maybe one day.

Well, she lets you buy nice poker chips, smoke good cigars, and drink good whiskey, so it's a fair trade off, right? ;)

@BlueChipSpecial do you have any concern with the gateway that it only works as long as they maintain their cloud service? Have you found that the battery really lasts 1-2 years?
I'm not too worried about the cloud service aspect right now. Their servers have been 100% reliable since I got them about 2 years ago. The batteries are all still going strong 2 yrs in, as well - haven't had to replace them yet.

Impressed with your discipline.
heh, I didn't age it for 8 years. I asked if I could try one on a different forum and someone sent me two of those and a few other aged sticks to try including one that could register to vote.

I don't know what it is, and not complaining, but cigar folks like to give cigars to folks and share the love. I've even found myself sharing cigars I've purchased with others.

I have been the benefactor of that. So far I tried 14 different Paul Garmirians and everyone constructed and burn perfectly. Did some research and he ages his wrappers and binders for min 7 years the. After cigar is rolled, he ages again for min 7 years before they come to states. That’s why they’re so mellow with no tongue bite. I could just smoke those all day

Yeah, I’ve been the beneficiary of this! It’s awesome.

So, 14 years, minimum?!
