Now have The Leftovers and High Castle to watch... What should I tackle first?

Caught a sneak preview of the first PKD adaptation episode looks great. Lol'd at the chick's lack of emotional response to his sister being shot dead but I guess living under Nazi/Japanese rule is liable to harden you up. Show looks good though...

I do like the Man in the High Castle, but the Leftovers is easily better and just on another level altogether. Love it. But if you're anything like me, you'll feel yourself getting dragged down a bit emotionally at the sheer bleakness of the show. It is quite worth it, however.

It sounds like a right party!

Watched the first episode of The Leftovers last night. Enjoyed it, shows much promise.

More importantly, Keri liked it so we'll proceed with the rest of the show.

Just finished Master of None this past thanksgiving weekend. Gotta say, I actually found myself audibly laughing by myself, something that rarely happens when watching tv/movies alone.

30 mins for a 10 episode netflix run is mildly disappointing though. Unless this show is released every 3-4 months with 10 new episodes, it's going to be hard for me to follow/remember to follow with all the other content out there.

I give it a solid B+

Looking forward to your thoughts as it moves forward. Hope your wife continues to enjoy it so you can, too ;)

Keep meaning to check it out as I've heard almost universally good things. To me, the length of the show and the brevity of the "season" is a big plus. As is clear in this thread, I love hour-long dramas, but I think their popularity has pushed a lot of people/networks to lengthen shows that would benefit from a little tighter running time.

If you're interested in hearing Aziz discussing the show, he appeared on Marc Maron's podcast a week or so ago and it was a pretty interesting discussion.

She didn't enjoy the demise of the GR member who got taped to the tree very much!

Seems like a solid show but the mystique surrounding the GR is beginning to annoy us both. Strikes me as incongruous that a 'cult' can establish itself and recruit so well over the course of three years, yet no-one seems to know what they're about. Hopefully as the narrative unfolds all will become clearer...

I hope that blowing whistles in preachers' faces catches on

The new Homeland and Leftovers were nearly perfect this week with the Leftovers getting the slight edge due to: (1) Liv Tyler's excellent performance; and (2) the soundtrack, which featured Melle Mel, Olivia Newton-John and Sturgill Simpson all in the same episode. It was magnificent.

Homeland is setting itself up for a huge finale, I think. We still have 3 episodes, so I don't want to get too far ahead of myself, but I feel like they're trying to distract us with the big reveals of the past couple weeks so they can really smack us over the head with something even broader by the end.

Of course, there's no doubting that the finale of the Leftovers will be insane after the reveal of the contents of that trailer in the last minutes of Sunday's episode. Yoinks. I have some ideas, but I'll be really interested to see how Liv Tyler pulled that off.

LOL I had completely forgotten about the whistle in the preacher's face. That was excellent. Unfortunately, the trend has not continued worldwide.

Also, I hate to say anything negative, but I'm afraid you're going to be disappointed if you're looking for explicit answers in the show. It really doesn't tie up loose ends in a linear fashion. That really, really killed me about Lost back when it was on, but for some reason I'm okay with it here.

I thought the latest Homeland episode might have been the best ever imo, if not ,certainly among them...

Leftovers' was also phenomenal... It keeps getting weirder and weirder, and I love it! (and Sturgill Simpson = the nuts)

I only had a chance to watch Homeland last night. I agree. Damn near perfect. Saying the end of the episode was spectacular would be insulting the other 55 minutes. Great episode all around.

S5 is the best season since S1 and S2 imo. Homeland's mo has been to really slow down in the middle (which didn't bother me much because I've enjoyed the story). Not this season.

I quit watching Lost 3 episodes in because of the same reason you just stated. Yet, its not bothering me with The Leftovers. The acting, story telling, side story's, ect...are all better. Being a cable show vs a network show is huge.

Weird and Fucked up...........How I'm trying to sell it to Jake (my son). Weird and fucked up in a great way!!! Last weeks episode was fantastic.

I didn't really get started with Lost for that reason but I much prefer The Leftovers. We'll be sticking with it unless it gets too dark for Keri!

I was frustrated the first time around, but I've rewatched it a couple times now (some episodes more) and it doesn't bother me at all anymore. I guess it's really just about expectation.

As far as network versus cable, I think the only real difference is that at that time network shows were required to pump out 20 or more episodes per season and it caused the story to be stretched too far. You can feel that in some seasons of Lost for sure - there's a fair amount of filler.

(and Sturgill Simpson = the nuts)

Got an email from a friend asking if he was worth seeing live and after seeing him here last in February (I'm in NJ, friend is in Atlanta), naturally I told him to get a ticket immediately. I happened to notice today the venue he's playing in Atlanta and it holds 2,600 people. The last place he played up here holds more like 800, so he must really be coming up in the world. Good for him. His live band is phenomenal, so go check him out if you get a chance.

You should make it at least 4 or 5 more episodes, then. :ROFLMAO:

Finally had a chance this morning to finish the recent episode of The Leftovers. I thought it was excellent. Again, the ending perplexes me. Curious what the end game is for this specific situation. I can't stress how much I'm enjoying this weird and fucked up show.

Liv Tyler pulled that off

same here. If they bother explaining it, lol.

I think

it's pretty obvious that Meg's extremist subset of the GR has enticed people not already obviously part of the GR to disappear themselves in their ongoing effort to remind others of the rapture or whatever. Sort of like little tiny sleeper cells. I would think this has been done in more places than in Miracle and we're just seeing one example.

I have a sinking feeling that they might be trying something really diabolical like presenting all the lost people back to the people they've disappeared from and simultaneously having them kill themselves or murdering them.

I had to watch the season finale of The Leftovers this morning. Couldn't wait until I got off work. It was very good. One of my favorite lines........"nope"

I want to preface this with its really stupid. Now saying that. The wifey and I fricken love "The Grinder" with Rob Lowe and Fred Savage.

Love that show! Very funny. way better than the Stamos show which is on before it.

Watched the first two episodes of Into The Badlands on AMC, the fight scenes were fn good! Show is not too bad, either! Will be watching the rest of this one.

Well, Keri did not much enjoy the Leftovers season two opener.

If anyone knows I'm watching a show with some disturbing motherhood content, you have my blessing to bombard me with the spoilers!!

To be fair, there's plenty of troubling motherhood content in the first season as well, but yeah, second season opener ain't an easy go. I would say to lookout for episode 8 from season 2 as well.

It was awesome!!!

@jbutler Just read that The Leftovers will only have one more season. http://www.aintitcool.com/node/73955

I'm fine with that. I think it could easily have 4 or 5 good seasons in it, but better to burn out than to fade away.

This is one I've been meaning to start because of you guys. Know offhand if S1 and S2 are available between Netflix, AP and/or HBOGO?

Yeah it's on HBOGO. That's how I watch most often. Great app. Much better than the xfinity on demand app or even Netflix imo.

Good deal, thanks. Figured S2 would be on there but wasn't sure if the first one would still be available.

That's one of the things that puts it above the other apps imo - the episode is available within 5 minutes of it airing through the traditional television channel. Xfinity takes hours and sometimes not until the next day for things to become available. And HBO keeps all its old seasons available at all times. They have still not put some of the more obscure older shows on the app (Dream On, First and Ten, etc.), but every "big" show and every currently airing show is on there.
