I am discomforted by tributes with same mold pattern, spots, and label as a real casino or created by an established retailer. For enforcement, maybe allow members with a high rank (e.g. full house or higher) to flag. After 3 flags, the listing is auto suspended. A moderator can unsuspend if warranted. This assumes the forum platform supports this kind of mechanism

Maybe a maximum # of bump for classifieds? Thread locks after x number of postings from OP. Another (easy) solution is to make classifieds expire after 4 weeks or so.

I do not think ceramics should have separate classifieds. Optional tags, however, would make it easier to filter. Maybe something like:

MATERIAL
Casino clay (e.g. Paulson, ASM, CPC, TRK)
Casino ceramic or plastic (e.g. Chipco, BJ, BG, Matsui)
China clay or plastic
China ceramic

ORIGIN
Authentic casino (unmodified)
Customized casino

Or how about you're able to buy and sell whatever floats your boat. I literally own at least one set of every manufactured chip on this list. What's the big friggin deal? There's something here for every budget. I haven't heard of someone getting duped and how would creating categories help? Did someone think they were buying a 500 chip set of authentic 1960's New China Club for $.28 each?

I hear you but this is now a medium that allows users to use a counterfeited mold, and potentially use a live Casino inlay design on top (or has it been done already). You might have a very unique set but at some point it becomes impossible to track whatever comes out of that manufacturer so why not separate it from everything else. Clearly I’m in the minority, as the poll suggests!
The latest casino scam shows that:

- it's not the mold (bad chip was cards mold)
- it's not exact live inlays (bad chip had a different name)

It's the visual likeness.

And there are plenty of clay chips that would fail the visual likeness test.

The only answer is a chip court. Where a council of judges (@bergs , me, and @JeepologyOffroad ) must hear the case and rule upon it. The offender and prosecutor can be represented by a member at full house standing or more. @Saoliver is the bailiff.

I don’t see you on the judges panel. You’re the (chip) executioner.

A few thoughts.

I voted yes.

I don't like opening threads that I think will be about interesting sets and then I see Tina crap I am not interested in

Fragmenting communities can be a dangerous game if the individual pieces aren't active enough to support themselves but where you can have clean delineations I think it can be healthy to have some subdivisions. I think there are a lot of folks who come onto PCF and are looking for slight improvement over dice chips or a minimal amount of customization but they're completely different people than those building TRK sets one chip at a time. These different personas of PCF members should have somewhat separate spaces because they are in separate worlds of the hobby.

That being said, I do think this is only relevant to the Classifieds. I wouldn't want to see the entire site bifurcated. Most other sections A) aren't that active or B) aren't that affects.

I also agree with the edit of the title "new generation of..." but I think that distinction is going to get messy and this needs to be anything but

I would propose that the classifieds be separated into these four categories:

  • Plastic chips costing $1.50/chip and less
  • Plastic chips costing above $1.50/chip
  • Clay chips costing $3.50/chip and less
  • Clay chips costing above $3.50/chip
Dollar amount subject to discussion

I would also love to see some standards in thread titles but that would be a massive cultural change let alone technical

i think tags that distinguish the material the chip is made from should sufficiently solve the problem. This would allow people not interested in chips of a certain type the ability to filter out these threads.

Along these lines, maybe keep what’s currently here but just add a High Limit room. Can be $10+ or $5+ per chip depending on the economy.

Does PCF remotely have a tag mechanism? I also feel like if you look at discussions of these things, they get quite murky quickly. The reality is that the most knowledgeable chippers are not the most active transactors in the classifieds and people buying and selling most just won’t reliably have the lingo for a tag system imo

Also, I want to offer a way to differentiate between low quality tinas vs premium plastics

it can. there is plenty that the forum software can do that currently isnt utilised. its just a matter of is the problem a real problem yet or an imagined one. It could be also be an opportunity to improve the experience on the forum for the stalwarts but at the same time an opportunity to allow new users to learn more efficiently as threads have some sort of additional mandatory data attached to them. From what I understand there is already progress on the way classifieds will be listed it just hasnt been launched yet.

@Tommy. any ETAs on the new classifieds and if tags can be incorporated to clearly identify a chips composition?

I read through all of this and I have heard a number of complaints.

A. Intellectual Property is important, m'kay
B. I can't be bothered with sniffing the poor while I get my TRK on, m'kay
C. We must protect the casinos currency, m'kay

Personally, I believe intellectual property is of highest importance. I don't want a ceramic RHC mold. It seems like China's entire game is based on theft of IP. (I could be wrong)

If you want to find a virtual clothespin so you don't have to smell China Clays on your way to the reserve room to shop for TRK and THC chips, that's fine. I get bored sorting through ads for $10-$25 a chip barrels and racks that I will never buy. Filtering by material sounds just dandy, but I still want the right to see what the rich are having for dinner.

If the casinos can't guard against counterfeits, I'm not sure how much influence our membership will have on preventing one of the oldest crimes known to man.

This was meant to be serious, but with a dry sense of humor.

I don't think live casino "tributes" should be allowed in classifieds.
I don't think anything that copies a sponsor should be allowed in classifieds.
I don't think anything that copies a member's design should be allowed in classifieds.
I think any sort of copy/tribute from a closed casino should be tagged/flagged/visible to the viewer.

Who says they can't? They most certainly do, can, and will. One chip got through last week, and more will get through, but if I'm running PCF I find a way to cover my ass. This appears to be a marketplace for counterfeit chips.

That being said, keep ordering through Tina and you do you! (not necessarily you) but as long as they print them, there will be a demand. And if the site wants to allow them, hell yeah! I'm just voicing my recommendation, no ill will towards anyone.

If I was an admin, I would ban live casino tribute ceramics and intellectual property mold ceramics. The biggest losers in this is CPC and RHC values (which I don't care about). But CPC is going to lose significant revenue to these knock offs.

I have a passing interest in people's ceramic customs; I appreciate the good ones. But if all the ceramics have to get buried on their own section so that I never have to look at any more copy knockoff crapass counterfeits, I'm all for it.

Honest question, you relate the CPC customs market with the tina knockoffs? Im new here and love both ceramics and CPC, 100% plan on having both but they feel completely separate to me. If I want WSOP knockoffs, thats not gonna stop me from wanting custom CPCs?

Very ready to be wrong, just figuring out what the rest of the market is.

My point wasn’t so much that casinos can’t protect themselves, but more I’m not sure how much we can sway that protection one way or another. (I could totally be wrong about how much PCF influences such things)

I am not a lawyer, and I don’t know where some lines are crossed, but it does seem to me that RHC and Scrown molds over that line. I’ve never purchased a set from CPC, but I will someday. I would like for them to still be in business when I’m ready.

If you want a custom chip, what are your options...CPC (the better version) or Tina (the cheaper).

If there was no Tina, CPC would have less competition, therefore likely more sales?

Ah, completely, okay. Was relating tina knockoffs of casino chips with CPC customs, nevermind.
