Resurrection of the TR King Small & Large Crown molds!! (2 Viewers)

I see new $500, $1000, and $5000 Riversides in my future. Upper denomination Money Trees too, probably, not to mention nickels and quarters for every TRK set I own.

Wow, that is great news, David! Congratulations.

Definitely interested in a sample set!

And @Tommy is gonna need to update the server to handle all of the extra traffic......

(y)
Wow David!
I assume composition and colors are the same as other CPC offered molds?
Can you tell me the dimensions of the scrown mold chips?

This is really a game changer. The options now could go through the roof

Big question is how will current values change on exsisting SC chips we own. Thats a valid concern - also can we notice the change to where someone will have 1st gen set and have to say the remainder are the “ new” version - if they are that close it should be interesting how a buyer / seller defines it

Either way Im effin excited!

Obviously some colors and edge spots are going to differ.

I’ve known about this possibility for years, after a couple little birdies told me where the molds ended up. I even hounded David at the chip convention and by email, begging him to make it a reality. I’m amazed that he was able to surmount the challenges that had previously kept the molds out of production. But while I am excited for the possibilities this now opens up, I’m also a little wary. I recognize that it is a net positive for the hobby, I think. While the colors, spot patterns, and feel will not be the same as TRK-produced scrowns, the fact that the mold is now back in production is a tremendous development.

I believe that is an issue with the general clay formulation. Same reason why there are on Paulson style V spots.

Yes, basically the same thing.

I think in most cases the differences will be obvious -- different clay feel, different weights, different inlay sizes, different spot patterns, different colors.

I don't expect existing scrown prices to be affected at all -- if anything, some sets may actually increase in value due to being able to round out missing or hard-to-find denominations with new scrown chips from CPC.

Great news all around, imo.

That is exactly what I was thinking too

so will these still have the feel of CPC clay chips (including brass flakes)? or is the formula different to where it would feel like the old TRK chips?

The formula is different. The non-weighted colors did produce a very similar feel though and about the same weight. Introducing a few new colors without brass in the future is a possibility.

I thought I read somewhere that Large Crown TRK chips were produced either all or in part by Burt and Company. Did I read that or imagine that? That would mean Large Crown chips do not contain lead and never did. Could be tough to tell new from old on those.
This is very exciting news to break today!

For the first 5 years (late 1920's, early 1930's) Burt Co produced their blanks. That's as far as it goes. I did write that somewhere, yes, probably in an old chipboard post.

Composition and colors the same at the moment. As mentioned elsewhere the results on non-weighted clay produced chips pretty similar to TRK. I think it's the finish of the molds as much as the material.

Given that the mold designs are well clear of the edge of the chip they could be finished at pretty much any size.
I neglected to measure or take a TRK sample with me for comparison. It would make sense that they fit our racks though regardless.
