Resurrection of the TR King Small & Large Crown molds!! (1 Viewer)

Would cost a lot unless you can find maybe 25 other people for a group buy. (I presume you just mean a 7 chip set?)
I was referring to an entire color set so I could kill three birds with one stone (updated color set, inlay set, scrown mold sample set). It was partly in jest but haven’t made any contributions to CPC in a while.

Edit: maybe I should wait for the new colors to be unveiled.

Composition and colors the same at the moment. As mentioned elsewhere the results on non-weighted clay produced chips pretty similar to TRK. I think it's the finish of the molds as much as the material.

Great news. I’ve been planning my set using all unweighted base colors

Start a PCF group buy funding project. We'll have the money togther by 8 p.m. tonight at the latest.

Put it on hold for a short while. I wouldn't want to commit a lot of costs to something that doesn't work. I have an idea how it could be tested cheaply first (which could be done on any mold). May need someones help out there, I will come back to it.

What about some new shaped inlay dies? The larger TRK buzzsaw comes to mind.

No feel for what the costs of new shaped inlay equipment will be. It's something I would think about if enough demand and I'll have to make some enquiries.

Given that the mold designs are well clear of the edge of the chip they could be finished at pretty much any size.
I neglected to measure or take a TRK sample with me for comparison. It would make sense that they fit our racks though regardless.

Thanks.. trying to see how they will match up in thickness and diameter with existing TRK chips (which vary in thickness).

Diameter we can control as I said. Thickness is a product of the mold, which in this case is not adjustable. It would appear they come out a fraction thinner meaning 20 TRK's would be about the same size as 19.5 CPC's.

I don't recall saying there would be any new colors?
I have a single set of shaped inlays for each mold (one of which was in the lead off post) but that's all that exists AND I AM KEEPING THEM :)

Thanks David.. can you tell me which TRKs you are comparing them to.. for example, Mapes $5s and $25s are thicker than Nevada Lodge $5s.
(If the CPCs are thinner, I think you mean 20 CPCs = 19.5 TRK)

The TRK's I'm looking at are an old box of 100 hotstamped small crowns. Slightly thinner than CPC.
TRK went through a mold every 10 years or so. As they wear the dimensions can change because of the nature of their plates and their process. So it's actually hard to compare. As I said, now embedded within our molds, they are not adjustable so they are what they are.
That said, the samples I made vary a bit as I was using existing spare parts so as not to disrupt general production, so I have quite a bit of variance as my parts had varying thicknesses as they were originally intended for other molds.

Wow, I'm away for a few hours and the chip world upends. Great news.

The formula is different. The non-weighted colors did produce a very similar feel though and about the same weight. Introducing a few new colors without brass in the future is a possibility.

Just didn’t say when :) :whistling: not trolling you just got a little excited that you had more news.

Thanks.. looks like I'll follow the old advice and.. "get samples".

Will they still fit the 67.7 racks? Maybe even 66.7?

*EDIT
67.7/20 = 3.385
3.385*19.5 = 66mm

Nice work!

I heard murmurs (around the time of the blue migration) that this might possibly happen some day.

Hello, some day.

Wow, this is great news, congratulations, I never owned these old-school chips, but I will look forward to this thread for future sets.
