Sellers remorse wtf ??? (2 Viewers)

Interesting conversation...

I've had sellers remorse for years...ha! Buy one set, never play with it...sell it, buy another...it was crazy.

Everything sells for whatever anyone is willing to pay for it. If you need to sell a set, you'll likely take a hit to get rid of it and move on. There's absolutely NOTHING wrong with making a profit on anything, much less a chip set.

Over on CT towards the end of my tenure, there was a sense of entitlement and stand-offish-ness where everyone on the site expected all Paulson chip sets to sell for .50 per chip or less and if they ever came out at $1.00+ per chip there'd be an uproar. Maybe it was just me and I was burned out.

The Chip Room (was looking for them today just for the helluvit - where the hell did Jim go?), pretty much crushed the chip market by offering Paulson chips 'on the cheap'. Flooded the market, really. Not necessarily a bad thing but I saw the CT community and the new members really start being snarky and 'above the law' in their comments and views.

To each his/her own. I just opted out of the game. As others have said above, if you don't like the price someone is selling a set for...just keep going and don't look back. No need to get worked up. They're poker chips. There are plenty of great deals to be had if you dig deep enough.

@ssanel54 - don't ever sell those Cajun Cups holmes! And whoever has my Dodge City chips...please post pics!

Nowadays, dolomite is out to pasture...loved playing with @jbutler , @guinness MDH Malaka (whatever his handle is over here) @bergs among others last weekend. Got the poker bug again but not the chip bug. More of a spectator sport for me now.

That's a damn good question.

He had a big "moving sale" over on CT in August, and now the Chip Room site is gone.

Beats me.

He said the revenue generated from the website didn't pay for his hosting and domain costs so he got rid of it being his sales came from PCF/CT. He also said he isn't out of the game (as of a month or two ago when I talked to him last). Don't lose faith in Jim!

The picture was screaming for a photoshopped poker chip in Darth's hands with the word "Faith" replaced by "Chip Sales"

I can but wonder why I have not had any sellers remorse. Even if I've downed my chip amount from over 10 000 chips soon down to bit over 2 000 chips
during the last two years. I have thought why, but the only reason I could come up with, is the thing that I know, my former chips are in great hands.
I haven't seen them move around a lot.

Even selling of my beloved PCA's and GCR's did not make me feel bad afterwards. So, from that I can conclude the decisions to sell were the right ones.

I hope this works with me when megasale summer comes.

What I find irksome is people gripe about the price someone sells their chips at as not being fair to "the chip community" but then if someone in "the chip community" snags an amazing deal on a set of chips those same grumblers are slapping that person on the back congratulating them.

My only grumble is when somebody buys reasonably-priced and highly-desired chips that are in short supply for the express purpose of immediately reselling them at inflated prices, thereby preventing chippers who actually WANT the chips from being able to buy them at reasonable prices.

Hell, I just want 10 mint PCA secondary 5s

Anybody, anybody

Quite a read, I never thought too deeply about it, I just assume this is the price and if it is close to reasonable and I actually want it, I may pay it or offer less. Like any commodity, supply and demand drive the price, as does some other factors like currency exchange rates (looking at you Canada) and the general economy. Let's face it, 2008, people were worried about their jobs and feeding their kids, so chips became cheaper and more plentiful because you cannot eat chips (I guess you could build a shelter out of them). I sold off a bunch of excess chips and such back in 2005-2008 and really have not bought anything other than to add onto existing sets since, but over the last few months, I find my office is starting to get filled with boxes of chips I need to smuggle into the house.

I suppose I am grabbing up some "deals" to eventually flip, so I guess I am "evil" because I am a capitalist. I did not think of myself as a collector or seller, just someone who appreciated nice chip sets. But since I do not host, I suppose I fall into that category. If someone is driven to the extent that some are (aka 1st Trop set), then I am one to stand aside and let you get your golden ticket. But if I see something that I like, I will pay a reasonable price for it. I will also sell things at reasonable prices, but never at a loss, I'd rather build a shelter out of them ;)

The thing that shocks me most about the "for sale" ads here is how FAST they are over. I will click one and think about it as I am scrolling down to see "SOLD, PM INCOMMING" If anything, I would like mods or sellers to update the tags to "sold" so I don't get too excited before the let down.

I do not mind the "price check" posts, some people are away for awhile and do not know the asking prices of a particular set. I also do not mind buying here as the cost is generally lower than eBay, but does have a little more risk Fortunately, I have not had any problems. I send money, I get chips, done and done. Moderators and members keep most people honest and educate them as to why they are crazy, but in the end if you think your $1000 CB BJ CIC chip is worth $100+ and I have bought several in the past for $10, I am not mad at you for asking $100, I offer $10-$12 and tell you if you ever want to sell at that price, let me know. I might talk to others to make sure I am not wrong, that the current price is really $100+, but either way, never be mad about it, just don't buy it. I am not mad about Tiffany jewelry vs. Cartier jewelry vs. Pawn Star's jewelry, each offers what they think is a fair price, one you might be able to haggle with, but if I don't like, I am not buying it. BUT if it is 95% off sale, I am loading up a shopping cart and selling for profit.

As I get older, the more I realize the small stuff is small stuff and not worth getting upset about. Congratulations, something did not work out as intended, that is life, get used to it. Life only comes with one guarantee, and that is death, so put things in perspective before you react. Oh, and don't be a dick.
