Thanks! I'm still at the beginning, so this was very helpful!
And your're right, they are far better than dice chips. That's why I bought them in the first place.
My next set will probably be ceramics - but not before seeing some in real. That's another point I just learned: Buy a sample set.
Don't feel bad - When I started in this game (2005) I bought custom "clay" chips that were "official casino weight". :(

Turned out to be custom labels on mass-produced plastic slugged chips. The chips were non-denominated (also a terrible idea), and the set had too many small chips and not enough big chips. Then my group grew and I tried to add-on, only to learn that I was making even more mistakes.

Since I've made it to these chip forums, my chipping world has been much better (though much more expensive). However, I still get the plastic slugged chips in play once a year. Never forget where you came from.

Welcome here!

We’ve all been there and just like @TX_Golf_N_Poker says, ”clay” is used as a marketing gimmick. Only place to buy real compression molded clay chips is here (CPC)

Some years back one could also get clay chips from TR King and Blue chip company (BCC) but now those are only found through the second hand market i.e. the classifieds here (or the occasional off forum find). Paulson is the only other manufacturer of compression molded clay still in business. They only sell to casinos though, or to savvy people pretending to be casinos (search for NAGB or (most recently) ”Tiger palace” on this site). Paulson used to sell sets to the public but discontinued 2014/2015. The sets pop up for sale on this site from now and then.

I have a few singles of CPC, BCC and Paulson that I’d be happy to send your way if you want to get a feel for the real deal (no charge). PM me your address if interested. Ye be warned though, once you go clay…

Let’s just say the rabbit hole is deep

Last harvesting trip turned into a get really drunk and play cards trip. But I think I'm on to something here. Absolute min buy the biggest game in the room. Guys don't care about you and you get really weak calls without a second thought. Huge sample set of 2 for 2. I'll keep it going...

Woho! You've almost harvested a full rack of $20s there!

Here’s a 4-8 limit stack. Felt like a blast from the past. I was the youngest guy at the table for sure at a tender 44 years old when I hit QQ and the board went Q33Qx for $200 high hand bonus.

Edit: this is Horseshoe Vegas. And these chips are confirmed garbo but any chip looks good when you have 200 of them amirite?

a few days ago, in Paris
Club Barrière 104, where ACF once stood: small, posh, historic venue in the middle of Champs Elysees.

In Paris you have to buy chips from cage, not at the tables: I bought 220 euro worth of chips, cashed out about 260 euro (plus souvenir 2-5-10 euro chips) after playing a few blackjack and punto-banco.
Chips have standard Barrière colour scheme, I like most the 20 euro yellow-green chip.
