Not sure if this question was asked already, but should I clean first or flatten first? Possibly the heat might make the “rust” bake in more?
Since you will need to clean these at least two time why not both???

I was thinking the same thing last night and using a polishing tool of some sort.
I saw someone mention sandpaper, which made me think of paint correction (which I have done on my vehicles over the years). I have a DA (dual action buffer), plenty of compounds, and sanding pads (up to 3000 grit) but since I was afraid of cleaning them, I didn’t buy any chips to try those techniques out on.

So, someone try that stuff out already or sell me a shuffle stack and I’ll let everyone know.

Lots of warpiness

Smaller chunks of magic eraser. Pressure with thumb over the hats and a few sharp twists. Pressure and fewer strokes to clean but not sand away all the texture (hopefully)

Ok.... so sad I missed this sale by seconds, had my cart loaded and PayPal took too long to load.....

Who needs to sell of a rack? I need 3 to murder.

I had some time to experiment with different methods. I found warm water (30c) + dawn in the ultrasonic worked good. I tried a magic eraser and the color was more dull and it rubbed the yellow stuff into the hats. Below is uncleaned vs. ultrasonic cleaned. I will continue this tomorrow.

That is ultrasonic cleaned without any physical cleaning? If so that's great! How long did you leave it in for?

Yeah I found that if you scrub this stuff it just makes it worse. Again I haven’t had a lot of time to experiment and will continue this later. I think it was 5-8mins. Its not 100% clean but the pink is soooo vibrant.

Interesting. I had always read that dawn was counterproductive in an ultrasound. I tested put but didnt go that long.

Fyi, after cleaning with the magic eraser the colours look faded but after oiling everything pops again.

I’m sensing a run on heating pads and ultrasonic cleaners...to those that don’t already own them.

My initial thoughts after cleaning 5 chips - this was no bargain. Cleaning takes a lot of time and you burn through magic erasers. But, I'm a patient guy!
That’s my take. But I’m watching along, because there’s a lot to learn here. Keep it up with the updates guys!

Sounds like a plan to get an ultrasonic cleaner... Best ultrasonic cleaner for chips recommendation?

Those chips look great!

When you get a chance, please post the details. Exact process, how long, how much cleaner, etc...

Interesting. If dawn in an ultrasonic did that, wouldn’t dawn work with the sensitive CPC chips?

Please note that one chip in the ultrasonic cleaner took me about 8 minutes. 4 minutes on each side. But that doesn’t mean you can pile 20 or 100 chips in there and get the same results in the same amount of time. I just tried 14 chips and it took around 20 minutes.(The chips lay flat and I flip and rotate them every 5 minutes)
Even after the 20 minutes they weren’t 100% clean. They looked bright and clean but some still had little yellow spots. So I will continue to test for a better cleaning solution or maybe a different method (For cleaning power I have never liked using dawn in ultrasonics)
