A swipe with the magic eraser would likely get all of the chip dust/loose part off - your final chip would just be yellower (and some of the ones I started with are as I didnt scrub enough).

Personally I think it adds character and kind of goes with the darker off-white/plum $1s. Kind of like an old west theme.

Also the super cleaned chips look amazing with the $1a chips.

Did you use a glossy vinyl thick laminate gear label?
 
i wanna do some chip flattening and im reading that we need ceramic spacers... where do we get those?
 
I got the dreaded “your package will be late but still on it’s way” message from USPS. It was supposed to be here yesterday.

Now I wait.

To be fair they are not perfect. Good enough for me though. They stack great with very little wobble now.

Okay ran out to my garage then to the basement to get some chips to try. Not a magic bullet but some good results. The Lago chips were quick the horseshoe chips took the majority of the time.
Might be a decent solution for those who need to clean these chips or other chips (ultrasonic is still faster but zero cleanup with the wipes method) Again not sure of fading but will check in later.
 
Not sure if this question was asked already, but should I clean first or flatten first? Possibly the heat might make the “rust” bake in more?

I'd also be concerned about it getting everywhere. It transfers very easily to everything it touches, especially via your fingers.

In the Horseshoe Southern Indiana Sale Thread is where I first saw alternative ways to flattening. Some with just pressure and some with a heating pad. @Colquhoun and @BirdCage got some great results with these methods. I tried the heating pad for my MT .50 TRKs but it did not work. Probably because they're leaded. But they had great results on HSI 1s. Here is about where that all started in the thread:
