He's desperate to move them. It is much more likely that something is done now that he listed the tournament set on the same account. The cop said that should be very beneficial to us getting him. The thing he's never gonna sell the chips though. His entire customer base is on PCF so not only did he massively overprice the chips, but his only customers know they are stolen.

Yeah. Really hard to not say anything. Really hope the OP gets the police to get off their ass and do something.

In all honesty I would say I want them and show up with my friends and just take them back. Without fighting. Just view the chips and say thanks for stealing these from my car, they’re coming back with me. Fuck all that and fuck thieves.

Sure would be handy if your fingerprints were found on the case or some of the chips inlays. Doubt they would go that far for that much work over that but just saying

Tell the cop that there's DNA evidence.

But seriously, hope you catch the scumbag.

I think all of us who are watching got the offer.

Just remember - well all know who ended up buying them if someone does take the offer. Don’t be that guy.
If someone takes the offer at $850 they’re not only an idiot because they knowingly bought stolen property. But, also because they overplayed for that stolen property.

Like you said though. If someone buys them everyone’s gonna know that they’re both an idiot and a scumbag.

Lol. The detective said that if the thief listed another one of the items for sale then he would more than likely be able to get whatever paperwork he needed and they’d be able to do something. So I was honestly happy to see them post it. Makes it easier for me to get the cops to help more than they have. Plus he listed the breakdown on this one and I have receipts to prove purchase and pictures of them in my possession.

I’ve thought about this. I messaged him and requested clearer pictures of the chips, but he refused to send me any so I figure he prolly won’t meet for local pickup. He wouldn’t be able to do much though if I just took the chips. The other thing is that I lost the chips as well as $500 of sunglasses. One of the pairs was sentimentally important to me since it was given to me by my mom as a gift. So hopefully if the guy gets caught I’d get everything back since he would have all of it. That’s ideal, but if I get anything back I’d be happy.

An interesting perspective. Just curious, how many police officers are you personally close with? How many have you had in-depth conversations with on their processes and procedures? I suspect few to none. Such conversations are enlightening.

Not much different than the posts from one of our ‘I’m an attorney!’ members who has been quoting legal aspects of how this could win in a trial…there’s theory and real world.

And in the real world, unfortunately you have to be realistic.

Footnote: my wife is an attorney too, and three police officers are close members of my fire company. I speak to all four often and have become enlightened from these conversations. You can feel free to consider what you paid for these views when considering the merit of this post though!!

What is eBay/PP's policy on buying stolen goods? If someone buys them, tells eBay/PP they've discovered they're stolen, does eBay/PP refund the buyer? The one dispute I had with PP took one year to be resolved despite their stated 90 day rule so I doubt it would be easy.
This sounds alot like the case that came up a while back where an eBayer was selling a bunch of CPC extras that got stolen from @David Spragg out of the mail. If I remember right he got them back, but I'm not sure how. I think he might have ended up just buying them back from the eBayer.

Correct.

Might be worth a private email to David just to see if he was able to accomplish anything after the fact with an eBay claim

Wow. Someone bid on the tourney set for $650. I think it's the seller shill bidding though. Either that or he managed to find the single dumbest individual on the planet who will overpay by $400 for a tournament set. If that person resides on this website (doubtful) I'll sell the set to you for the low low price of $600 when I get it back. Thats a $50 savings and you can sleep easy knowing that it will never be taken and you aren't a dick. Plus, I can make a few hundred on the deal and just buy a new set. Win for all involved!

I hope the OP can get his chips back. I think I’d arrange a meeting for them and take them back too. I doubt he’s going to pack a firearm for a chip deal. I honestly believe he was probably just wandering around parking lots trying to see if any car doors were unlocked and got lucky. There’s a guy that bikes around my neighborhood looking for change on the ground every morning. Those kinds of people are out there. It’s not like it was a mastermind heist or anything. Bring some friends if you need to. There are usually people looking for some trouble in bars or gyms too, if your friends aren’t down. Wouldn’t take much to convince them to tag along. Best of luck whatever the case.

Why not buy them on eBay and open a case with them. They are probably better at handling this than the current detective lol
eBay won’t do anything about stolen property if it doesn’t come from the police. It would also cost me over around a grand to get them so I’m going to call the cops Monday and tell them that the balls gonna need to start rolling ASAP. I really do think he shill bid it though.

So my only question, if your car was in an apartment complex parking lot, you mean to tell me the building, parking lot, or any other surrounding building have 0 cameras that could have possibly caught footage of the robbery?

I do hope the detective is able to do something to move a resolution in the right direction.
I would still consider contacting eBay, even if they do nothing, it is in your favor that you have reported a listing with your stolen items.
Really sucks this has happened to you, I'm sorry that you're having to deal with all the hassle

My concern would be that if he contacts eBay, they may tip off the seller, and further complicate finding the thief. Although I'm not sure eBay's process for stolen goods...
