Just venting to folks who will likely understand.

A few weeks ago I checked my spam folder and found a PM notification from ChipTalk. It was from a member contacting me out of the blue about a set of chips he was considering selling. I sold him these chips years ago (5? 6? more?) and almost immediately contacted him and told him that if he ever sold them to contact me first. I have also sent him a couple messages over the years asking if he would consider selling them back to me with no response. So you can imagine my excitement to see a message about these chips.

Anyway, we start negotiating and we come to a price (almost 3x his asking price, which was already ~2x the price I sold them for). I list, and successfully sell, my 1000 Argosy 50c chips and my 100 Crystal Park $10s. Sweet - ready to pull the trigger.

I come home tonight to an email saying he's having serious second thoughts, I fire back another offer, he says he's going to hold onto them and I'm all like

Same thing happened to me last summer. Still looking for the chips and that member hasn't logged on since September. :( It sucks!!

I'm pretty sure I remember the set, and the buyer. If I recall, you got a set from him that was ...meh...at best...

I could be wrong...

sorry to hear that Josh. I know that feeling. The only cure is to buy more chips.

Uh, he's a douche. You had agreement on a deal that benefitted him at an inflated price, sold chips to make good to enable payment then he backed out. He owes you in good will and in cash. At very least if he had integrity he'd try to buy back the Argosy and CP's at whatever price necessary to make good.

To me a written agreement should be binding. I got a little tipsy one night and made an offer on a breakdown of chips which was more than the asking price by a decent amount because drunk math. The next morning I saw the mistake and honestly couldn't believe the seller didn't correct me. But I didn't back out, I paid up. Luckily chip prices had gotten a little nuts on eBay and I was able to unload at almost even a while down the road.

Basically I believe in a handshake, verbal offer, written offer as bond. Break it and I won't deal with you again. A man is only as good as his word.

That just sucks - been screwed myself lately. Doesn't feel good. Hope you find something even better.

Backing out and shafting Links is like dicking over PAZ. Sure, you can do it, but it means you're a terrible person. Probably the same sort of person who (a) takes candy from children, (b) scratched my car when parallel parking last week and didn't leave a note or (c) likes Donald Drumpf.

Links (and PAZ) are the most stand up guys I've met here (and that's saying something--I've met a lot of good folks here).

(Speaking of PAZ, do you know that this weekend he offered to let me borrow a chip worth $200+ for a year until the next BBotB, just because I told him it was one of my favorite TRKs ever? Nevermind that it is super rare, almost impossible to find and one of the jewels of his collection. And he brought homemade cinnamon bread.)

Anyway, Links, sorry to hear about that.

I certainly didn't intend this to become a "bash the seller" thread. And now I'm even more hesitant than before to let the cat out of the bag about the chips (other than it's not the chips Krafty is thinking of). I've got no hard feelings toward the guy - I don't blame him for not wanting to let them go. I shouldn't have sold them in the first place :) I was just overwhelmed by the roller coaster of supreme excitement followed by massive disappointment. Obviously I'll get over it - there are moar chipes out there.

^^^ fair point. I was actually going to post yesterday that I don't think you should disclose the set or out the guy.

Josh you are right. Take the high road. Sucks that you lost out on the chips. Really painful for sure.

Emotional stuff buying and selling clay.

Felling your pain. Had the same thing happen with one of my - I'll sell my kid to get these sets a few years ago (Le Coves).

At least I didn't sell chips to prepare. Man that's got to suck.

At least if you had prepared you'd still have the chips. You can always make another kid.
