Switch to Casino not going well.. (3 Viewers)

You will find a far more robust and informative response if you post one hand to a thread and proceed through it step by step. Lots of times the "obvious" street you gloss over will turn out to be a more important decision than it seemed to be at first glance.

Also the discipline to pay careful attention to get all the information you will want in a strategy post will help your game. Same thing for strategy posts where one of the key factors turns out to be information you don't remember or didn't observe.

Everyone benefits from a strategy discussion. -=- DrStrange

I quoted this to emphasise the importance of this paragraph. Figuring out what information to take notice of and how it effects your decisions IMO is the most important skill to develop when trying to improve your game.

Lets revive this thread with a photo of my current bankroll :)

I bought in for $140 in mid October, and ran well 3 nights in a row for a BR of ~$1050. Went down a few times after that, and was down to $500 again... Haven't had a "winning" session since but a few breakeven sessions that could have been much worse!

So with a little $$$ added my BR is at ~$1350:

I attribute a lot to joining RedChipPoker, firstly because of their podcast, but moreso because they released a training video combo called "Crash Course in 1/2" which is basically 11 hours of training videos pulled from their "PRO" videos, put in order, with articles and podcasts to back them up... Basically it's distilled information to help you become a winning player at 1/2 as long as you put to work the information provided... I highly suggest checking it out...

I've listened to the Red Chip podcasts, and think they're interesting -- but since I don't get to the casino on a frequent basis, or even on an infrequent basis at the moment, I hesitate to subscribe to the PRO website.

Does it focus more on live play, or web games?

Definitely Live play, that's the reason I found it, and stuck to it... it's far more live focused than online, however most of it applies to both.

I am really determined to have an actual BR set aside for live poker and build that up, I love the Casino, from professional dealing, to nice cards, decent chips, professional dealing, good social atmosphere, and the professional dealing really kicks ass!

Switched from one casino to another on the LV Strip playing 1/2, net profit of $980 the first week, but it's been a rollercoaster since. Live badbeats, coolers, and downswings are real - not just an online thing. The larger your sample size (hours played), you'll experience this in waves. However, a kickstart in bankroll minimizes tilt effect.

Agreed. This post is a great snapshot at how amazingly far I've improved in 6 months.

My biggest issue was keeping the BR for "poker use" only -- I had a girlfriend who would see me come home with the occasional big score, and then get upset that I wasn't spending any of that money on her. Thankfully, she's no longer in the picture... but I'm not able to get back to the casino on a regular basis -- as a result, I've got no idea where my game is right now. Reading the articles on RCP and that are great, but if I can't put them into practice...

I recommend the totally unscientific approach - go to another casino

I know it doesn't make any sense, but if you have another place to play, I'd suggest giving it a try
I haven't read the whole thread, but as unscientific as this sounds it's worked the best for me.

There are about 7 card rooms within a hundred miles of me, and there are two that I just can't crack. The clientele there just does not fit well with the style and manner that I play poker. So I avoid them and do quite well in tournaments and ok in cash in the others.

You're doing it wrong; when you come home at night, you always "won about $50". That way you never win enough to get her attention but since you never lose, so there's no reason to argue about you going out to play.

We only have one casino within 2 hours that has a casino, and that casino is 15 minutes away... There are some home games that I think I will frequent however

Never stay at a given venue for too long. The regs will figure you out.

If they can "figure you out" your doing it wrong. You should be figuring them out so that you have a plan for each. When I lived in Vegas I purposely sought out most regs since I already knew how they played. Just because they play all the time doesn't make them immune to major leaks and you just need to exploit them. If they are really good, just play straight forward ABC and you should be fine.

Until you hit the 5-10 or higher stakes the regs really aren't that good.
