Just wrapped up 3450 Statue of Liberty. Pretty much the Mapes of our Lego collection. Bitch of a piece to put together.

I could never find a SoL so I did the next best thing. I accumulated a bunch of bricks and built one from scratch. Those green are hard to come by. Only green parts were visible, everything on the interior is different. you can search and buy nice plans to make the pedestal, just get parts you need on brick links. The pedestal is huge.

The new addition to my fleet finally arrived, I'm really looking forward to building this thing !!!
6.073 bricks in total, size 91 x 73 x 43 cm :wtf:

Hello everybody

Just in case you wonder how my last LEGO aquisition turned out :cool
It took longer to build this monster than I expected.
Some of the building techniques were adventurous, which means that a little drop of superglue was needed every now and then...
And though I was somewhat aware that it's a huge model, I was shocked aboutt it's true size once it was finished.
But I managed to 3D print a stand that works really well and also adds to the presentation.
I hope you enjoy it, I certainly did and do !!!

(I need to do something about that cover on the wall...)

Found this blast from the past at a local FB group. Mint. I think these will end up framed on a wall.

A small but fun project I'd been working on for the past 2 years, now finally out

Also a bit longer (and much better) video, where they really went all the way :wtf:

Thanks for the thread bump @MegaTon44. This reminded me I haven't posted updates in a while:

Just short of 24 hours build time in on the Titanic at this point. I started using this as a "brainless" way to end an otherwise thought-intensive day at work. Anyone who has done LEGO knows how much of a Zen sort of exercise a build can be. This has turned into a way to decompress for an hour here and there and not a rush to finish the build.

I'm a slow builder anyway, and I'm estimating another 5 hours left... maybe six. I'm missing one brick ( ) but thankfully it's not structural and I was able to build around it. Once it's all done, I'll use the "replace a brick" service to take care of that.

Unfortunately and in the meantime, other sets have started to stack up. At least those give me something to do once this is finished.

30 hours and 10 minutes build time (many months real-time), she's finally finished and in her new home.

This is on the bookshelf that's behind me in most of my Zoom calls. I might have put her here on purpose.

The engines were the very last thing in the build. They are linked via drive shafts to the propellers at the stern. If one turns the little sprocket ends at the left of the engines, they turn with the pistons doing what pistons do in the cylinders but also turns the props!

One final little piece of detail on a build that is loaded with many great little details.

Maybe a short break, but then it'll be time to figure which of the many unbuilt sets is next in line.

Right behind @AlbinoDragon in terms of the Titanic. Not an overly complicated build compared to some others, but very fun nonetheless. My wife and average 450-500 pieces per hour as we work on together, so it took us about 22 hours to complete over the course of 2 months

Looks pretty good in the basement/poker room.

I went to the LEGO store in the mall this week, and was beyond floored at home much legos cost right now. My son (16) said most sets on the right side were great. Everyone was over $99, and most were in the $250-$800 range. I found some duplos in the back right corner. I hope he likes them.

Well... considering the longevity of both the product, and the usage, I wouldn't say they're expensive. Also, should you decide to sell them at a later point, you'll probably get a lot of the money back (depending on the chew factor on the grading scale  )

My "fair value" rule of thumb is ~10c a piece. If a set has 500 pieces, expect to pay around $50. There are some exceptions to this like the art sets that have lots of 1x1 pieces but it's a reasonable first guess.

I guess you have to assume legos are “manual” art, which I can’t get into. Don’t get me wrong, I love legos. I could sit and build them all day. I can’t get behind spending that much for something to just sit on a shelf and collect dust.

Note, we have no artwork hanging in the house, outside of a few homemade projects.

If anybody wants to gift me a UCS Millennium Falcon, it would be forever appreciated! Or if anybody knows if they are going to make Rings of Power themed Lego....
I've heard they would be coming with a new LOTR series, probably related to that.
