I noticed that the chips are retaining the odor from the plastic wrap or the chips just have an odor themselves. In any case, I cleaned 10 of them with soap and water and the smell was gone. I suggest cleaning them first before oiling them.

Did you submerge them, or did you wipe around the edges with a damp dishcloth?

Not really. They can be stacked on top of one another, but they don't nest or anything.

^^ This. A white vinegar rinse can sometimes be helpful, too.

I'd also spread 'em out and let them air out for a few days -- definitely don't store them in a closed container at first.

Never had Milanos so I can't say. I may try Dave's vinegar suggestion too. Either way the smell goes away once washed. I will wait a few days before oiling them after I wash them.

I ordered 2700 of these. I can't imagine taking the time to wash, allow to dry, then oiling all of them... Much less the work surface required to accomplish all this? Where will I find the space to spread all these suckers out? Sheesh. #pokerchipproblems

Last night I oiled a little over 500 of my chips. Huge difference with the 5k, 25k, and 500k. Both the edges and the faces it was very noticeable after oiling how much more vibrant so I did them all. However on the 1k and the 100k it was only noticeable on the edges not the face so I only did the edges on those chips.

I do hope you guys read that I was being facetious.

I really need to stay away from the internet for the next couple weeks... As much as I LOVE all the posts/pics about these chips, I have this gut wrenching feeling like I'm going to get mine, and they'll be different heights or mismatched in some way, or they'll have run out of a certain denom (and I'm SOL)... Or the last shipment will get lost in transit. I just need these chips to get here!!!!

Here's some oiled vs wiped with water (a day ago) comparison. The oil really makes the colors pop. At first wiping with water made them look similar but then they dried out again.

Wow nice photo. That should settle a pretty popular question. Might not be as noticeable with all denoms but that's pretty conclusive evidence for those.

Well, there is at least one distinct differences between the CPS chips and the referenced Pharaoh's Club and Protege chips (plus others like Dunes Commemoratives, Desert Palms, and le Paulso Noir) -- the former was a group buy where savings were shared by participants, and the latter were all a pre-buy offer for chips that were later offered commercially.

so last we heard the final shipment of chips was arriving the 21st (i.e. tomorrow) so I'm eager to hopefully hear the good news. With any luck I'll get them in time for my next home game on the 30th :
