The Redneck Poker Card Database (6 Viewers)

This topic is basically being used for commentary only at this point.

The actual "database" (v2.0) is now a resource: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/the-redneck-poker-card-database-2-0.76/

With it in the resource section I can edit it indefinitely. Problem I ran into with this topic is that you can only edit posts for a fixed amount of time. So the list on the OP is now dead. Additions are not possible. But I kind of still use this topic for reviews when I add something to the 2.0 database.
Thanks, I've never really even looked at the Resource section. Now I know where to go! I was expecting to see it as a pinned item within the Poker Playing Cards section.

Yea, took me a bit to find the link the 1st time, I kept scrolling the forum main page trying to find it. Completely missing the fact that it's in the pagehead.

KING - Monarch & Prestige

OK, so the Kings finally arrived from PokerShop.com.au.

The Monarchs are only available as individual decks, while the Prestige are available either individually, or as two deck sets.

Both come with cut cards (always a nice bonus), & physically, there's no difference between the two lines. Both are PVC, 2.50gr, .0130", & rate a 15.5 on the flex meter. So the only difference should be the back design right?

Well.... this is where things get a little weird.

They both use the same font & pip style, but the Prestige line (left) uses a noticeably lighter red. While Monarchs (right) have a nice bright, bold (not security) red. Also, there's no branding on the Prestige ace of spades, while there is on the Monarch.

Prestige have the yellow-ish beige centers, & Monarchs are plain white. The Prestige also have a "flatter" face finish. Not that Monarchs are glossy at all. It's just that the Prestige are even "more flat". This has the effect of making even the black face cards slightly "lighter" in hue.

One last oddity is that only the ace of spades gets the over-sized center pip on the Prestige line. The heart, diamond, & club aces all have small center pips. While all 4 of the ace center pips in the Monarch deck are oversize.

One last thought, it kind of feels as though the finish coating was laid on thicker than most. They're not Faded Spade thick, but it gives 'em a definite different kind of feel. While I'd still classify it as "linen", you could almost call it "eggshell" if you wanted.

EDIT: Checked finish against a set of Faded Spade 2.0 & reclassified as "Grainy".

Dealability-wise... Straight out of the box they had a bit of a tendency to cling together, but they seemed to come around after a few riffles.

The "Classic" line were out of stock when I ordered, but from the images on the website I'm going to assume those are the same as the Monarchs with a different back design. So, if I were ordering again, I'd skip the Prestige & go with the Monarchs & Classics based on looks alone.

As always, specs went up in the database: https://www.pokerchipforum.com/resources/the-redneck-poker-card-database-2-0.76/

I really like them. I am surprised that they are considered linen. They are the coarsest cards I have. I sure hope they handle the quality problems encountered with the bridge size cards from the group buy. We don't want a repeat of the Modiano fiasco.

Since you mentioned it, I dug out my Faded Spades for comparison & I think you're right, they are much closer to that than an actual linen. So, I'm going to reclassify 'em as "grainy". Thanks for slapping my memory around.

Now, if you really want something coarse, grab a set of the new Dal Negro made Desjgn. :D

TACTIC - Pro Poker
OK, so back when I ordered the Belgium-made Cartamundi Casino, I figured since I was going to pay trans-Atlantic shipping I might as well poke around on PokerShop.nl & see whatever else they may have I might want tossed in. I came across these "Pro Poker" made by Tactic Games in Finland. The "Made in Italy" was intriguing, so I ordered a couple.

Now, the fact that they were actually listed under Modiano's brand listings probably should have been a clue, but curiosity killed the cat & all that.

The production house is indeed Modiano. Complete with the Italian fat spade (obviously), & including Modiano's usual joker design.

These are done on the Modiano "Platinum" stock, so the specs are identical: Thickness=.0125" / Weight=250gr / Flex=17 / Material=Cellulose-Acetate / finish=Linen/Linen

So, they're basically a Modiano Platinum with a diamond back pattern.

Currently sold out on both PokerShop.nl & Amazon-UK that are the only 2 sources I know of.

PM me the source for the plastic cards if you can please!

Unless I miss my guess, the black box is likely a 2 deck red/blue set. Like the paper version.
It looks like a single deck though, no?

I ordered 3...we'll see
Based on old price and fact they are not stated red/blue...should be 2 decks
Based on dimensions...should be 1 deck

If these are 2 decks..price is very nice for platinums

If these are 2 decks..price is very nice for platinums
You can say that again, if they shipped to the US I'd already have an order in. Of course by the time shipping to the US got tacked on, I'm sure the price would end up being about a wash with a set of Platinums off Amazon.

For someone in the EU though, that is a real good price, I'm jealous. :D

Update

The cards I received were the same Dix reviewed (blue box), I just received 3 single decks (2 blue & 1 red).
I was able to reorder the cards Dix & JMC wanted.

The cheapest are still the regular modiano platinums (16 EUR for setup here)

I also updated my card stock

Main cards are
Poker size -> Cartamundi casino (Belgian stock) / Modiano platinums & Pro poker (prefer these backs) / Piatnik plastic
Bridge -> waiting on the delivery of GulaschKanone's Modiano Alpha casino, if these are good i'll keep them if not I'm done with buying bridge size

Kicked out all the KEM decks after receiving 2 new setups like these:

1601379630328.png

100% done with KEM now bar 4 decks, (1 setup Pantheons poker size, 1 deck Pantheons bridge size & 1 deck WSOP 2009 bridge size) these are still perfect but will not be replaced. Also removed all the cards I did not like as much (Copaq, Bycle, Ace, NTP, ...) just to simplify things...and free cards for my buddies

Found a new champ in the Cartamundi cards....these are awsome (the Piatnik & Modiano/Pro Poker are backups now).
If the Alpha casino cards are not what I like...I'll hunt down 2 more bridge Piatnik cards and be done. I prefer poker size anyway (dealing & visibility).

I did order 2 setups of the Fournier EPT cards (new version)...never tried these and since KEM is out, these deserve a chance in my cards collection.

Currently my card stock

Poker size
5 Cartamundi casino decks (3R/2B)
4 Pro Poker decks (2R/2B)
2 Modiano Platinums setup (2R/2B)
2 Piatnik plastic decks (2R)
1 KEM Pantheons setup (1R/1B)
2 Fournier EPT setups (2R/2B)

Bridge size
6 decks Alpha casino (modiano) [delivered 2morrow]
1 deck Pantheons bridge size (1R)
1 deck WSOP 2009 bridge size (1R)

Others
2 PCA setups
1 Starline setup
2 Key west decks

And while almost all chips have to come from the motherland...nice cards we have in spades over here ;)

Patience grashopper :)

Had some time to check the Fournier EPT decks...these are nice !

Nice tuck box (with silver seal) and double cellophane wrap (box & deck).
Great finishing on the cards, these ooze quality and I love the back design (much more generic & discreet vs old EPT/WTP designs.
Medium flex and weight (imho) but I'll leave the details to our testing guru (@Dix)
55 cards (52 + 2 (identical) jokers & 1 poker hand ranking card)
Some smell but not excessive...

Like them (a lot) on first sight but every deck needs a night of shuffling before it feels worn in.
Will update after a game (and feedback from my other players)

2818? Those are wide, then, not narrow size. I could have sworn people stated that they were narrow, so I passed. I'll have to order some.

This is my favorite thread.

It's a damn shame what happened to KEM. I buy ore USPC brown box decks whenever I get the chance, but they're so frequently trash with their modern product.

2818? Those are wide, then, not narrow size. I could have sworn people stated that they were narrow, so I passed. I'll have to order some.

The EPT cards advertised by the eBay seller were listed as Bridge size
  • Cards size: 86 x 58 mm (3.39" x 2.28"). Weight of the deck: 148 g (approx).
Poker size is 86 x 63mm. When my setup comes in I may be selling mine as they were listed as Bridge size.

The item description on the eBay listing indicated they were bridge size, but 2818 Fournier's are poker size. Can you confirm what they are either way @Thomacetti ?
