Things That Are Bullsh*t (12 Viewers)

At least around me it makes sense. Speed limit was 55, but as new neighborhoods keep popping up the speed limit keeps dropping.

I figure they must plan around an "idiots per 10,000 population" number. At a certain number, there will be someone so dumb that they will just walk out into traffic.

Its very similar to this. Wife and friends are public planners, from what I understand many of the decisions are based around population density and number of turnoffs/stops in an area. Might not be nationwide but certain places plan streets and laws around that; Athens, GA has a 7 lane "highway" thats has a 45 mph speed limit.

Yeah, this is nationwide on residential area roads that used to be 30mph. They haven't even installed signs across the country yet; people are just expected to know, apparently.

It's been introduced to save lives and apparently cut costs for the National Service. Even though, by the Welsh government's own admission:

For the conspiracy theorists, gas cars are said to be most efficient at speeds in the 45-55 mph range.
Electric cars are said to be most efficient at speeds in the 25 mph and below range.

Source is the internet

Electricity comes from coal…mostly. We are gunna need more coal fired power plants for all these electric cars.

I made this up…but it’s probably true.

???? Everybody knows electricity comes from the government. The companies just jack the price up because they are greedy. If they would cut out the middlemen the government could supply all our electricity needs. Food is the same way.

Worked in the electric car industry and yep it's non-sense and BS.

U.S. ain't doing great job in renewable energy.

Gas cars and electric card both end up burning some fuel at some point in the energy process.

Why do you think thats probably true?

We can agree that we suck at renewable energy, absolutely.

And yes, they both burn some fuel at some point in the process, but that sentence is vague enough to mean nothing. I burn some fuel just breathing and I burn some fuel sprinting; everything is relative.

Your part of Alabama may be different. The Tennessee Valey Authority, which provides power for 90% of Tennessee, Alabama, Georgia, Mississippi, Kentucky, North Carolina, and Virginia derives 59% of its energy from non-carbon emission sources.

People trying to claim Electricity is bad for the environment - while using the internet - is BS

@NotRealNameNoSir It's the people who think coal/fossil fuel isn't involved in electric cars, so they think it's a clean energy car. It's surprising so many people think that and I admit I was thinking like that when I was like 8 or 9. Both are harmful to the environment yet we need to depend on them.

Oh and this isn't like a formal debate, so my words are casual. Just as an opinion and what I feel as BS.

Similar to people in my age who think cigarettes are harmful, but nicotine vapes are ok? Both contain nicotine and are harmful, but the latter doesn't stink a lot maybe that's why? Same for gas cars, because of gasoline odor and vibration from combustion?

Is it a matter of whatever stinks or not behind the perception that one is healthier/cleaner/better than the other?

I don’t know any electric car owners who think this simplistically.

Your argument is like saying that someone trying to diet shouldn’t bother cutting out chocolate ice cream because carrot sticks have calories, too.

We all know that anything that is manufactured requires some energy to produce. And that obtaining electricity often involves fossil fuels.

But the fact that some fossil fuels may go into EVs does not mean they are not cleaner. Usually, significantly cleaner.

Huge fan of nuclear energy…and the TVA.

Fossil fuels for the win!

I said probably true…and I made it up. But wasn’t far off…thank god for the internet.

Just messing around…

Many, many moons ago (circa 1977-ish), I was working in Sault St. Marie, Michigan.

They had a posted speed limit sign on a downtown street for 12 MPH. Not 10 MPH, not 15 MPH, but for exactly 12 MPH. Wtf, the speedo in my Camaro at the time didn't even have digits that low -- no way I could even tell if I was breaking the law.

They probably hadn't changed it since both early automobiles and horses shared the road.

You can't fix stupid.

There is a road through gulf shore’s national seashore that is 26 mph…cops will give you a ticket for doing 30 mph.

This sucks…it’s the twistiest road in lower alabama.

Hell, if you turn the 8 track on in a Camaro you are doing 13 MPH.

Intentional speed traps aside, I recall reading somewhere the psychology of using an odd speed limit number is that a driver will notice it more just because it is unusual and outside the norm of what they see every day.
The goal is to get drivers under a specific speed. People always creep on the limit, 3-4 mph is pretty common. So if you want them to go 15 or less, you post a 12mph speed limit and their creep takes them to about 15. People are trainable, and they are also creatures of habit which can be used as well.

Anyone get COVID at a convenient time?? Woke up with head and muscle aches about a week before presenting at a weeklong conference at a goddamn casino.

Still have time to get a negative test/be asymptomatic before going but will be searching the guidelines for sure.

Never.

My kids and wife tested positive the day before JIJ 2022. Felt fine but wore a face mask the entire time and missed the first day and most of the second day. Tested positive 10 days later....right when I started my approved vacation from work. Had to cancel our trip.

When you have no friends in the industry and have to hire career coaches that charges $200 per hour to have my resume and cover letter polished, so I can get out of receiving food stamps even I graduated from one of the top colleges in the US (don’t ask where because I have PTSD from it and college football) with an honor. Peers (not friends and don’t have contacts) are getting paid $100k+/year while I’m jobless after getting laid off from $40k job. Yeah my 20s suck and no wonder I never smile in my 20s unless I’m intoxicated or see $$$. My 20s are busy enough I had no time to deal with ladies, so I made them disappointed a lot too by ignoring and declining dating/dinner/bed time. Glad I became a singles dealer so I can continue my hobby.
