Inches and miles are BS

Some people say they don't understand the metric system.

For people here, we know how big is 39mm or 43mm, then why we can't use it elsewhere?
If you ask a non-chipper to estimate 39mm or 43mm by putting their fingers that far apart, most would have no idea.

I agree the metric system is superior, but the USA is stubborn.

Don’t know how old you are, but I’m almost 50 and this has been a stagnant issue for my entire life. We always heard than the metric system was coming. They taught us both in elementary school. I remember soda bottles changing - we’d always drink 16 ounce bottles of Mountain Dew, but those became half liters. Bigger bottles had already moved to two liters. Funny though, cans are still mostly 12 ounces, huh? But yeah that was all 70s/80s stuff and we’ve made nearly no progress since then.

Because stupid people outnumber smart people.
I understand it’s simple because of familiarity and all but even the dumb folks should have an easier time using the 10x, 100x etc of the metric system rather than fucking around with the ”1/16 of an inch” kind of thing.

Dumb folks don't care about the multiples of the metric system. They aren't calculating anything, so the 10x feature is lost on them. The familiarity of knowing of what it means when a destination is 10 miles away, if they need a jacket when it is 55 degrees, or "about" how much sugar is in a cup is real-life information that they would need to relearn if signs were in kilometers, temps were in Celsius, and volume was measured in milliliters. Don't even get me started on how ape-shit crazy people would get if they has to fuel their truck in liters.

I want metric. But switching would require an act of congress (literally), and no politician wants to piss off their dumb constituents, because that is a major part of their voting block - no matter which party.

The metric system is coming! The Russians are coming! The solution to both of these impending doom situations was to practice hiding under our desks.

I miss childhood

When the company you have worked for the past 23 years decides to go to an unlimited PTO plan, with no compensation given for accrued PTO. Effectively stealing almost $20,000 from me.

And the company is selling it as “good for both the employees and the company.”
Lawyer up. 20k is worth fighting for.

Even better, find a better job. Get my money and stick them with a vacancy at the same time. Win win.
This one is hitting pretty good. We just lost our projects support specialist because the vp of hr vetoed the income bump. She just wanted a match to an offer she got. They wouldn't do it. My boss, his boss, many different levels are foaming at the mouth over it. How does hr get that power? They have no idea what we do and the impact that's coming. Not only the cost of filling that position, but how projects will slow down, directly effecting project efficiency. So worth the pay increase. Why can't they see that? Such bullshit. So basically you would hit them harder than 20k if that's your plan, for sure. But you wouldn't be whole. They owe that money to you.

If I leave before 12/31, I get my vacation accrual payout. Which is why I’m not feeling too loyal ATM. I can’t wait to tell my boss that I have another offer. Just to see them scramble. And their scrambling probably wouldn’t change my mind, anyway.

And they will scramble. The early retirement offer is going to take away a LOT of experienced people away. My department has been decimated this year.

Better than them putting it on BACKWARDS so Im pulling from the bottom like an ANIMAL.
As the only male employee in our shop, I can guarantee that I reinstall every.fukkin.roll that I don't initially install myself. And not once has it ever been changed back.

Metric is used in science, manufacturing, and elsewhere. We use both in the US.
I agree commonlt used in science. I'll say 50/50 in manufacturing.

Barely in daily life like the amount of food buying, how fast you're driving, or how much you weigh

speed limits

wtf?
Canada, Mexico, and the rest of the world have speed limits in km/h, but we have them in mph and never saw one in km/h. That’s a while another level BS.

Then no stinky bathroom as long as you keep it clean? I hate stinky bathrooms at school/work and yes it’s BS.

I picked one up a few years ago at a flea market…. It might protected pretty well,, based on the weight. It was enough that I didn’t take it home. Would have made a good yacht anchor.
...and that was empty. I distinctly remember being single digit and having my desk filled with books, papers, and nickels.

Health insurance.

Covered, in-network, referred by doctor, need-to-fix-it-to-work-properly physical therapy visit? $880 for each hour until I meet my deductible, and half the first visit was paperwork and testing to make sure I wasn't crazy and my shoulder actually did hurt. This is why men in the U.S. just choose to live in pain and die instead. Craziness.
