People using OCD for the wrong reasons.
- Needing to have racks of 100 chips is a preference, not OCD.
- Needing specific colors and spot patterns is also a preference, not OCD.
- Preferring a clean poker cabinet, spots aligned in certain ways ... not OCD.
- Needing all of the same type of plastic racks .. yup ... not OCD.
- Not wanting a certain color chip in your set .. not even close really ..
OCD is a disorder and can be crippling to some.
What is OCD
Obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD) is a long-lasting disorder in which a person experiences uncontrollable and recurring thoughts (obsessions), engages in repetitive behaviors (compulsions), or both. People with OCD have time-consuming symptoms that can cause significant distress or interfere with daily life. However, treatment is available to help people manage their symptoms and improve their quality of life.
Howie Mandel talked about his OCD during in interview once. Basically, he would drive somewhere, get out of his car, and lock the door. He wasn't really sure if the door was locked, and would check it again. He'd hit the button on his remote to lock it again, but then, wasn't sure if it really locked it, or unlocked it, and would check it again. Walking away, he'd feel the need to check it again .. and this went on and on for about an hour until he could talk himself into leaving his car. This was just one of the things in his day that he couldn't deal with. He had several others.
Sorry, I just see it used so much here, when 99% of this is not really OCD. I would be OCD if the initial items actually prevented you from moving on in your day, or really caused you distress in that you cannot complete other things until that is done. My wife works in special education, and have become more privy to the unfortunately conditions that people are struggling with. I also struggle with some of these same conditions, but that is a story for another day.
I'm sure it will still be used for all of the wrong reasons, or we'll calling One-off Chipping Disorder .. and move on.
