Things That Are Bullsh*t (8 Viewers)

All these US only classified postings are pretty frustrating. SFRB are making it no issue and I've been receiving regular mail no issue for small chip counts. It really isn't much work at all to ship to Canada (there are a lot of us on the site!).

Shipping to Canada is cost-prohibitive. $12.25 for up to 8 oz. So one chips is $12.25.

That said, if you want to pay to ship it to me, I'll repackage it and send it to you ($12.25 for an International First Class Package or whatever the International FRB costs...$37 something?) at cost.

I agree. I'll ship internationally. However, i understand not wanting to. When i do. I have to stand in line and ship over the counter. That can take some time to do.

Except you can ship a chip in an envelope (I've received up to 8 chips this way) between two pieces of cereal box for like $3. I have received chips from all over the US this way without issue. I also always assume the risk but have never had a shipment come through. Also much slower with a 1-2 month timeframe at the moment, but it works.

But I appreciate the offer and may have to go with an intermediary. I know @Jeevansluck has had a lot of success using the assistance of different forum members.

If you're an infrequent shipper, shipping internationally can be a hassle though. A couple years ago I resold those Casino movie chips as singles and small groups and shipped them in bubble mailers. It's the first time I had shipped so many little packages. The pricing was all over the place, even just going to US addresses. Some of them came back for more postage too. A couple of them were going to Canada, so I took those to my local shipping store guy that handled USPS, UPS, FedEx etc. and asked him what was the cheapest way to ship to Canada. He said, "there is no cheap way to ship to Canada."

Hey, were all friends here, so if no one complains...

I may have paraphrased, didn't feel like fast forwarding, but you get the gist.

...unless you get Sharon, at my local post office. Then, $12.25 to ship one chip (and like $4 to ship domestically, instead of a 70¢ non-machineable surcharge stamp).

I think Sharon is from thechipboard...

Was the ban deserved?
Suppose it depends on who you ask. I retracted a bid in an auction because I felt bad about outbidding a friend, wasn't sure the best way to handle that. The ban is what it is rules are rules, however the penalty system that I was unaware of is rather unfortunate. Jeff mentioned above 1 week (with a ? mark) for first offenders and I was given 2 weeks. I have access to everything except the classifieds section in it's entirety. The seller will still receive funds from another bidder for their auction.

Withdraw/renige on a bid and you get a temporary ban (2 week) from the Classified Section for a first time offender.

edit...2 week
About time.

Not honoring a purchase commitment is a serious offense, imo. I generally add people to my never-deal list for backing out from their written vow to buy.

If allowed, it could destroy the entire chip market system here.

I say we should start a petition to unban @FordPickup92 . Wonder how many signatures we need.
I dont know how to feel about this idea except, that's cool. Thanks man. I'll survive, 2 weeks to save up funds, right? Haha

I’m confused here? I get following the letter of the law, to uphold the spirit of the law, but does this really make sense?

It honestly only hurts people who don’t know the rules. For anyone that did this to actually escape what they thought was a winning bid, wouldn’t they just edit the bid, voiding it?

Seems like this case was an honest mistake, since there was no way the auction would go that low? Was just a sign of respect or fealty or whatever in removing her own bid?

A person's word here in this community is EVERYTHING. Don't know how to make that any more plain.

If you make a commitment, honor it. Simple. And for those that don't, there are consequences. Also simple.

I don't understand why this is even being debated.

Agreed. If you outbid a friend you didn't want to outbid, open a discussion with the friend and let them know you are willing have the seller ship the chips to the friend instead. Work out the price difference between the friends between themselves, and keep the overbid in tact.

Otherwise, a retracted overbid helps to protect the friend's previous bid by scaring other possible bidders away. Hurts bidders with limited funds and the seller.

I don't tend to follow auctions that have gone above my "acceptable" price point. If I saw a bid over my maximum, I unwatch the thread (or never put in a first bid, thus never watching) and would never know the bid was redacted.

That said, a 2 week ban isn't terrible for a first offence, even if the rule/penalty was unknown. I assume the rule is in the TOS, so nobody gets a "free one" when it comes to harming someone else's bottom line and another's chip collection.

as @Poker Zombie said keep the bid in place and work out a deal with your friend on the side. Not that hard at all.

The ban is only in the Classifieds section anyways and last time I checked she has Ben that help with anything she may want in that time anyways. Really not much of a punishment in the grand scheme of things. More of an example so others realize not to do it too. It is good to know the rules apply to everyone.

Bets are binding. You can't raise, and then suddenly announce that you want to "take it back" -- for ANY reason. It's against the rules everywhere, and it's poor form to even try.

Is the ban a new thing? Never knew it was a rule, I remember @Changster backing out of a bid or two when he first joined the forum, and I dont remember him being banned
If I recall, he kept that bid when brought to his attention and bought the item (may have even subsequently raised it).

I don't think the current rule was in effect at that time, and may have been introduced partly due to that incident.

I don't disagree, but I don't see anywhere in the auction guidelines about a two week ban for a first offense, it just seems a little harsh. Maybe a warning, then a ban for as second offense would be better.

Tommy informed me the penalty policy is as follows:
1st time: No access to the Classifieds for 30 days
2nd time: 30 day account suspension and no access to the classifieds for 60 days.
3rd time: Banned.

And was put into place after the first bid retraction occurred. He also informed me that he had given another member a break with a 2 week ban and felt it only fair to give me the same. Since I want to make a very clear example, I feel as though the policy should be publicly known. As I previously stated it may be best (for me) to just avoid auctions. My mistake was not meant to be foul play, I felt guilty and did not properly handle the situation. In no way was I trying to be malicious or disrupt the sellers auction. People have gotten free passes in the past, the system cannot catch every thing all the time, so I'm sure others have gone unnoticed occasionally. Sh*t happens, learn from it and move on. If somebody thinks I'm less of a person because of it, they're entitled to an opinion too.

I have been silent on the issue publicly... I had a response all typed out here. Out of respect to the powers that be I deleted it and went with a different approach.

But I ask... is it really fair across the board?

Why would Dave make a statement like Finally?? Seems as though these things have been allowed in the past... you know maybe a warning given. There was an auction some time ago for some Jack's a monster bid was placed and then withdrawn. He was allowed back the same day of banning. Another member posts about another race in a derogatory manner stating that their rap music is all about sex and their body parts. Rule number one flat out broken.. highly offensive zero ban.

Nowhere are the penalties for first time offenses posted that we can find. Ok maybe when we signed up but if excommunication even temporary from an entire section of the forum... that is a pretty steep penalty.

Dave if rules have changed overtime is there an area for viewing those changes?

Is this seriously a challenge of integrity?? Zero negative of neutral feed back for either of us? She wasn't even given the opportunity to reinstate her bid... it was a mistake!

Keep in mind my dinning room table is covered with the 4th grouo buy that Brianna has ran for the community. Not a single item on that table is for her. Not one!! She does it to help the community out of the kindness of her heart!

It should be obvious that PCF is our life, we absolutely love this community! And if anyone honestly thinks that we would jeopardize our good standing with this community in anyway, over a $5,000 bid or a $1 bid you are absolutely incorrect.

So let's all come together and beat the last little thread of moral fiber out of this amazing woman to make a point. Congratulations to all of you!! You point has been made, I hope you trully feel that justice has been served, that everything is totally fair and righteous in the world.

To each and everyone of you that support Brie and have spoken up, THANK YOU many of you are personal friends that know this woman! That know that she will bring food and do anything asked at any meet up! That she is young and still learning... but that she has an absolutely amazing Heart! Your public opinion s being shared will not be forgotten.

I am a man that had been accused of wearing my heart on my sleeve, I am an open book. I share every thread of whom I am publicly, I have been asked to be quiet and let this blow over. As it is a public forum my words are just as valuable as any others.

Comments like #988 are those really needed here? Are you proud if yourself for that one buddy? Another little knife won't hurt right?

Fellow Chipper, lover and admirer of the guilty!! Ben
