My attempt at soaking the chips for 10-15 minutes in detergent did wonders for the Paulson. They came off incredibly easily with a brush. I'm guessing 5 minutes and a light ultrasonic bath would get them perfect. This chip isn't even oiled.

The ASM chips became soft and the top layer became loose and burnt out.
The hot stamp disappeared because I ran my finger over it and it came off along with the top layer of clay.
Black turned grey..

Although, I must say that the oil helped a little. But, the surface remained porous. .

I don't know what it is, but it damages ASM/CPC chips.

That is scary what happened to that DieCar. I don't know if it is said enough in here that what works for Paulson, may not work for CPC / ASM or other older chips.

With that said, what is the preferred method for cleaning these older, non-Paulson chips? I just bought an 1800 chip limit set of DieCars. The yellow solids are a bit grungy, and hot stamps have begun to wear. I'd like to clean up the chips, but not create any further wear on the stamps.

I think it’s stated very clearly in the OP. Some people read it, and some people didn’t. :confused

Only a toothbrush and mild soap will help here. Perhaps ultrasound with distilled water (or water without micro-air bubbles) and mild soap.

On this forum it is a crime to buy 1800 chips and not take a group photo!

Thanks! Those are seller pics. I will absolutely take group photos once I have possession of the chips.

In the meantime, maybe this photo from the seller will do? I bought 1600 of the yellow and 200 of the blue/red on the far right.

This is an 11 year old thread with 57 pages of posts. And you're saying everything we need to know is in the first post? Yeah, right...
No. I’m not saying that everything you need to know is in the first post.

I only said that the fact that Burt Co./ASM/CPC chips are damaged by the Lundmark “TSP” (and others) is stated in the original post.

Any concerns with ultrasonic cleaning Paulson hot stamp chips? I do not want to jeopardize the starburst stamps

Same concern as hand cleaning them, just make sure you don't use a detergent/cleaner that messes with the foil. Always best to test your method with a sacrificial chip if you're not sure.

Well, I finally bought a US vevor 3l. My relatives are visiting and I want to play a limited game. I have a set of 1250 chips. I have only brushed 120 so far... And the thought of having to brush them all by hand is driving me crazy. I chose the 3l model because it is cheaper, more compact and has better power considering the volume and number of converters....

(But overall I have about 2500 to clear.)

I used regular tap water but let it sit and soaked the chips for 15 minutes in all-purpose cleaner.
Threw 40 chips into the basket and stirred with a spoon. About 2 minutes.

So in the sea of information.

Would it be ok to use TSP substitute (phosphate free)
On Harrahs hotstamp chips. In an ultrasonic cleaner?

Finally got around to cleaning my Harrah's hot stamp NCV chips. Started by hand but realized I'd probably never get them done without an ultrasonic.

So, I picked up the fake Lundmark TSP (2 tbsp per 8 cups distilled water) and ran the machine for 1-2 minutes between 31-38 Celsius.

Most went well but not all stamps survived. Not sure if I was supposed to dilute it twice as much or run it colder but either way if you cherish your hotstamped chips cleaning by hand is probably the best bet. I did test a different Paulson stamp first which was not harmed then started a few of the Harrah's at a time.

The T25s seemed to survive the best and the T100s most prone to damage. Can rub some of the stamps off by hand running your finger on them at first but seem to be fine after sitting for a bit:

I tried a different phosphate free tsp liquid at first which didn't damage the stamps but also didn't do a great job at cleaning the chips. Not sure what went wrong but most stamps are good. Either I'll try the last of my T100s with colder more diluted water (1 minute seems better than 2 for stamp damage as well) or just clean them by hand.

TSP substitute can definitely damage hot stamps; I’m not sure why some PCFers deny it.

I used TSP substitute for my Harrahs hot stamps and there was some issue with hot stamps.

I think a lot of the issues may be from people using varying temperature, ratios, soak times, and pre soaking.

I was over cautious, my first batch of 100s I ket in for under 3 minutes, then rinsed and gave a light scrub with a soft/ medium bristle brush. I noticed this did very minor damage to some of the hot stamping.

New technique was same ratios and timing but to hold the chip between thumb and finger on the hot stamp , then give the chip a quick scrub.
Perfect.

Perfect for me though is not 'minty clean' but has no discernible gunk anywhere on the chip and they look clean.

This technique allowed me to keep them in the tank for less time, which also mean there is a LOT less fading. I wont be oiling them.

I know I’ve damaged hot stamps in a tsp substitute soak, and I’ve damaged hot stamps just my scrubbing with a medium plastic brush.
So now I’ll only clean hot stamps with that pink chip cleaner goo that Spinettis sells. But really my solution is to avoid buying dirty hot stamped chips as much as possible.

How does the ultrasonic do with Bud Jones chips? I just picked up a couple racks of Midway & Cascade Lanes and they're absolutely filthy, so much casino-issue hooker juice & the dish soap and electric toothbrush treatment is going to take weeks, there has to be a better solution. I can't have the girlfriend telling me these don't come in the house...
