What is the Allure of Leaded Chips?? (4 Viewers)

Percentages is measured at PPM
1,000,000 PPM equals 100%
450,000PPM equals 45%
60,000PPM equals 6%

Etc, you get the idea.
To complicate things even more, if you are doing parts-per-million particle counts on a liquid or solid, then that is neither percent volume (atoms have different volumes) NOR percent by weight (atoms have different weights). On the bright side, at least ppm for a gas is the same as % volume.

I even asked chipguide dude if he would put that in and also better color info, but he didn't agree
The color info on chipguide is okay overall, but is often trash. It's worst when somebody submits a terrible scan that picked up every color incorrectly and then chipguide gives it a color based on the turdburger scan instead of the color the chip really is.

Over Easter weekend, my dad was checking out my current horde, so I decided to do a field test of a very infrequent casual players opinion of which chips feel/sound best.

In hia rank order, reflecting "ties":

Leaded THC
Abbiattis
CPC CSQs and RHCs
Paradise Mold (Noirs)
Unleaded THC and CPC H molds
Cards molds

So an "uninitiated" into the PCF mysteries person still landed on leaded THCs as "the best" out of a wide range of samples.

This is a blind test, or does visual aesthetic need lay a factor?

Noirs would be leaded as well, but Abbiatti #2??? Yikes

In my mind, I feel like those metallic gold hotstamp fracs were the heaviest chips I’ve ever handled. I’m blanking on what casino.

Really? I would have guessed no. I thought they were produced sometime in the late oughts?
And have you handled those Abiattis? Those park plazas or whatever that were - a group buy a couple years back? They are pretty amazing. The only thing negative I’d say about them is their price tag, which approaches two bucks apiece. But they’re almost with it.

Not surprised by these results. IMO broken in CPC's are the most competitive with leaded THC.

Were the unleaded THC chips broken in or newer? Just curious.

Noirs vs. Leaded THCs. Maybe noirs are the "some lead" Era.

This thread suggests the Noirs were made in 2007, which would put them outside the dates I associate with fully leaded Paulsons But there’s been some talk lately of partially leaded clay being used toward that time, so who knows.

Could be. And of course colors vary and inlaid chips are generally lighter than hot stamps, so maybe.
Yup. Yellow bases are an exact match on the yellow chips though. Not sure how much the spots and inlay make a difference- if it's 1g per chip worth.

Yeah could be lots of factors. Are the stack heights and diameter of the different molds exactly the same? I’ve never owned any Noirs, but always admired them.

He definitely preferred the feel of CSQ over H mold, so maybe mold was more of a factor than the clay formula

He really felt the leaded THCs were significantly better that the newer THCs (tigers) though. But yes woth CPC vs CPC one would think it's a little closer.

More than $2 each, around $2.20 after shipping, I think. But hey, that's a bargain nowadays.

Paulson Le Noirs are not leaded.
Just not sure there is a common definition of leaded. Noirs are not from the “fully leaded era” but would seem to fall in the date range of “phasing out lead, but some colors may still contain as high a lead percentage as fully leaded, though still may vary by weight”

What we know from the blind feel test is that this person preferred the feel of a fully leaded hotstamp THC mold chip over the feel of a maybe leaded inlay chip on the paradise mold.

Does anyone know if the old Trump properties chips were leaded? Like early 90s to late 90s I just got a few and I love them. I played at one of his casinos in the mid 90s and the last time was around 2005 or so. I definitely like the feel of them. A bit heavier, softer and just nice. They are certainly different than newer Paulsons

Ask your dealer to weigh them. Hehe
