Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (17 Viewers)

I was reorganizing, and decided to do a family shot of the “rebel” chips.

This pic is awesome. One question - why are these chips not in matsui racks? Just curious.
Not sure I understand the question. Are you referring to the stackable nature of the Matsui racks compared to the Unique racks, being able to store them without putting long term weight on the chips below, to prevent warping etc?

If so, it’s something I’m still considering. It’s much easier to access chips in the Unique racks, but I do imagine I’ll need to do something different long term.

FWIW I much prefer Paulson/Unique racks for storage and transportation due to the snug fit. Really can't stand how the chips wiggle in Matsui racks. YMMW.

I was looking through old photographs today, and found this shoot I did which makes me tired just looking at it. I think I called it my “grail garden” photo shoot, back in December of last year. I’ve added several dozens sets since then, but don’t know if I have the adolescent energy to redo this. Phew.

I think most of us remember this post very well. Amazing.

The Great Grail Wall.

The following is a Photoshop rendering, but I’m ecstatic about how my Aztar set is going to turn out. The original $5 has always bothered me, and for a long time, I considered using the Aurora Star T5 as the replacement chip.

I eventually decided on using 4 mint racks of the Empress Joliet $5 secondaries, and for the $500, I found these shape-millable 6d18 purple chips that are just perfect.

Here is a Photoshop rendering of the final lineup.

Since this was a Missouri casino, the $500 should be orange.

"I felt a great disturbance in the Force, as if millions of voices suddenly cried out in terror and were suddenly silenced."

“Kid, I've flown from one side of this galaxy to the other. I've seen a lot of strange stuff, but I've never seen anything to make me believe there's one all-powerful Force controlling everything. There's no mystical energy field that controls my destiny. Anyway, it's all a lot of simple tricks and nonsense.”

Put in my own personal way…

You proclaim yourself to be a chipper at heart @Windwalker . How can you sacrifice something as rare as spotted starbursts to complete a silly 77th set (whether you personally care about spotted starbursts or not)? Once you murder, the dead can never return. Chipping is about more than just building yet another set for yourself, is it not??

Lol at spotted starbursts meaning anything.

For fuck sakes, the starburst is the stamp that Paulson used to cancel chips.

The only reason they exist is likely because Paulson didn’t want blanks released to the public and they were likely overruns.

No blanks was the same policy that BCC had.

**edit** and this is coming from someone that despises murdering and labelling in all of it’s incarnations.

Everything in your post is valid. Unfortunately though, it doesn’t make these chips any less rare, nor my statement any less true.

There is nothing particularly special about a Starburst hot stamp, just like there's nothing particularly special about random initialed hot stamp. If the chip can be modified to get it into play, and it's not some sort of historically important chip, then it's a good thing to get it into play.

Please see above. The Starburst hot stamp…no. The Starburst hot stamp on an uncanceled spotted chip, sorry…I disagree.

A Starburst vs any random initials…far, far, far easier to piece together a complete set vs some random initials set. And with Starbursts, I don’t have to justify why XXX means something to me to use the chips as-is!

More importantly though, whether you personally care about a starburst on a spotted chip being rare or not doesn’t really matter. To say it isn’t far, far more rare than a great number of chips that trade hands on this forum every day is flat out wrong. Sorry…but just because you personally don’t care about a rare chip doesn’t make it not worth saving IMHO.

Spotted starbursts are fairly uncommon if not rare in qty

Yes, acutely aware. But couldn’t bring myself to murder the Empress Joliet $1ks.

You mentioned in a previous post you have some blaze hot-stamped bear claws. Maybe they could work in this lineup instead? Would love to see a mockup just the same you know for science and stuff.

They’re already allocated for another semi-secret project :-) Plus, bearclaw aren’t different enough from 4ta’s to make enough of a progression shift.

Most common complaint I see on PCF lately: "There's a lot of new people getting into this hobby and a supply shortage right now driving prices up."

@Windwalker: Why is everyone looking at me?

So I actually have a serious question: Your account is only a year old. Is chipping something you've actually just gotten into? If so, what created such an interest in the hobby?
