Windwalker’s Chipping Journey in Pr0n0grAph1C Detail (34 Viewers)

It should be said that TRK did make racks of "replica" chips. They probably made the Kings Crown version 2 chips in the 90s. But that casino never opened. They also made the sets of hot stamped El Rancho large crown chips, but in the 1980s well after the casino burned down, and they didn't copy anything that already existed.

The Kings Crown replicas (or "tributes") are clearly distinguishable from the originals though. The real ones have shaped inlays and have that old school leaded feel, and the reproductions look far more modern, more like the Deadwoods and TRK Rounders (when TRK chips started to be somewhat meh, in my opinion). Also, they had basic round inlays in the later sets. I believe someone commissioned these though if memory serves me correctly. Someone wanted to make a tribute set and they allowed it since the casino was defunct. TRK had lost its Nevada license by that point though anyhow.

A slow-roll of a very, very special rack to be revealed. (Ok, 99 chips, it’s missing 1. :( )

I’ve understood from folks like @FDLmold that most of the available chips from this casino are recovered from the “dig”, which is why they’re mostly in terrible shape.

That third spot looks like a different color. Wonder if it’s the photo, mine is true to eye. (But oversaturated, as expected.)
Accounting for differences in photography skills and lighting I would say they are the same chip. $75 and you can confirm it

But then a mini pack of digital hyenas led by a brightly colored rodent decided to continually use micro aggressive taunts and undertake a form of online bullying about these finds I mentioned.

Well, FWIW I have both purchased chips from that “brightly colored rodent,” and have met him in person more than once, as it turns out we live not that far from each other.

When I was a newbie on PCF, he was generous with his time and advice to someone who did not make an easy initial adjustment to the raucousness of the boards. (I now better understand that lighthearted ribbing, satire and absurd replies are a big part of not just the culture, but the appeal here... If one takes it too seriously, one is going to get a rough ride.)

I have since gotten to know said rodent as a kind, perceptive and open-minded person; OwlGray might be a more apt name for someone as sensible and reflective. He also has a subtle and gentle sense of humor about both himself and others (surprising for someone of this accomplishments, both in chipping and professionally).

As I understand it, he is also an OG collector from back in the “blue board” days (maybe that’s the origin of his screen name). He has created, with the help of other members, one of the most stunning custom sets.

In any case, he has a truly fine collection and for many of us is a highly valued member of this forum. Maybe you two just need a timeout and a reset.

For all the new members that don’t want to have to catch up on the lore of the “colorful rodent” comment it is @gopherblue who @Windwalker is referring to. The comment that was referenced is this one. I also took the time to look at gopherblue’s posts from the last 3 months to see where he made insulting or demeaning remarks to other members here. I found the following posts. We have this one that I believe refers to @Windwalker and this one referring to @Lemonzest organizing NAGB’s to flip the chips to the community. I’m not sure what was said prior to this since I didn’t dig that far. So if you’re new or don’t feel like spending an hour catching up on PCF drama to decipher what the cryptic remarks in this thread were then here you go. You can come to your own conclusions on the matter.

Edit: I’ve had a few more shared with me that I had either missed or were ones I hadn’t go through yet. So here they are. This one, this one, and this one. I’m sure there are more, but those are the most relevant. Also just want to clarify that this post was made to give context to people who didn’t have it and does not reflect my opinions on either memeber.

I can’t wait to see how much drama there is when they announce who won PCF Prom Queen.

I wonder how many of us other chip maniacs wouldn’t do exactly what Krish does if they had the same kind of resources. My guess is a lot of us would. I know I definitely would! I love chasing new sets and the only thing stopping me from buying sets all the time, is that I simply can’t afford to. I am most definitely jealous but it’s very cool to at least get to see pretty pictures of chips. Over saturated or not :D

In the art world, you'd rather have a collector or institution amassing rare and amazing work than having art sitting in warehouses gathering dust. the difference here is that we could go to the louvre and see all the stuff. My only gripe is I can't see more than what gets posted here and there, but the fact that he is expending the time and resource to get these collections out of probate and back into the chipping world is a very big service to me. that also goes for the other chippers who have made some amazing finds, but surely one can't deny that Krish has a big enough crowbar to pry out some of the tougher hoards.

If i had the time and money to be competitive with the great chippers then sure, my incentives would be different but i think i'm more representative of the majority currently.

We would have all bought tons and tons of chips for sure. Then, the way of acting it is everyone's choice -- and the consequences that go with it. Some would have done it with class, others made the choice of disdain. Many here act as if they don't see it, I don't know which is worse in reality...

Krish - are yours all missing the red ink?

For those not following the "red ink" discussion, the Pioneer Laughlin "P" can be filled with red horizontal stripes, like so:

So did I at first, but I'm pretty sure that's a result of fade/wear/damage to the gold ink. Getting that kind of fine detail in registration that perfect is REALLY hard.
