Tomorrow is my 3rd monthiversary at PCF, and it got me thinking about grateful I am for all the new friends I've made on here, and the incredibly complex and beautiful world of chipping I've been introduced to. This community is not without its flaws, but at its best, it is giving, supportive, unselfish and so kind.

I've going to be doing a massive (1000 chipset) giveaway for my 1000th post, but am flumoxxed by one issue about it, and would love opinions. Is it feasible to stipulate that the set cannot be flipped for profit for at least a few months? I know the answer is probably no, and there's no way to enforce it, but it feels icky to think that a gesture like that could end up being flipped for immediate profit. Or maybe, I shouldn't give a shit :-) .

Either way, look for a 1000 leaded THC chipset giveaway for my 1000th post!

Such a generous offer. Maybe stipulate that can only be sold for a charity of your chosing? Possibly 2 x 500 chipsets?

Honestly just decide what your stipulations would be, and ask/mention that folks who are willing to abide can enter.

I can’t imagine you get any flack for that. I’d say also feel free to reserve the right to block folks from entering, but at that point the lines begin to blur.

Best of luck in the giveaway, and of course along with many others I’ll be looking forward to the reveal!

A ROFR for a length of time at least dissuades the profit sale because you’d know the offer price. The sale could be the purchase price plus half the profit of any resale for a period of time, which again to limit the desire to resell. Or you just stick it in what the terms are. Enforceability aside, it makes it interesting. :)

Concur w/ @BarrieJ3 . I think if you just ask, everyone will respect your request. And I don't think it's remotely out of line to be asking.

I think you'd be likely to hear about it through your grapevine if anyone was planning on flipping it, and I think everyone knows that, so I suspect anyone thinking about it will think at least twice first.

Definitely not necessary. Cool none the less. I think if you do a giveaway. It should be just that, without any expectations. flippers are gonna flip. Most will appreciate it for what it is.

I really think the giveaway should only be for posters with a 23k + post count. Just saying.

I agree with the prior suggestions. In addition, for a giveaway that size, I’d suggest some sort of qualifier. Maybe any dealings with you over PCF or at meetups?

Well that's awesome. I did a one-year 1000-chip set giveaway but it was a $200 set of China Clays . . . I'm guessing yours will be nicer ;)

I think it's reasonable to ask that people not participate if they are planning on flipping them and that if they do participate and win that they not sell for profit for some period of time. But that's all you can really do about it and with even the most well-intentioned members life happens sometimes and people are free to do what they want with chips that they own.

This is my personal fav. I’m a big fan of FROR, as I think it makes chips move a bit more around the community.

Nothing of crazy value, but I’ve “given away” sets for 100% free, and I actually have someone else’s now that was sent to me gratis. It’s not borrowing, we can keep em forever, it’s just not an option to sell. That and half priced sets have worked great for me and been a ton of fun.

Insanely generous!

I think you'd be well within your right to add any kind of stipulation with regard to flipping or any other stipulation. Seeing it flipped for profit, even a few months or a year down the road is kind of a slap in the face of your gesture.

Having said that, I think it would be difficult to enforce. Other than asking people to make that commitment and hoping they have the decency and honor to keep their word.

Oooh I like the idea of a general qualifier, or maybe a multiplier. That dealing with me give you more entries or something. Stuff to consider.

That wasn’t my intent. I just think it’s a crazy thing to give to a new member with 20 posts.
Its crazy even considering giving away a 1000 piece leaded chip set imo.

Id suggest @Windwalker you consider giving away a heavily used set. The people who don't have much by way of chipsets will be very appreciative to have the opportunity to have something and those looking to make a profit will be dissuaded. Those that have plenty already well have plenty already.

If you’re trying to give back to the community you hold dear, run down a list of all the help and great interactions you’ve had. No need to explain each one, but roll them into a giveaway.

If you like Hornet’s aspect, put together a fun list of what’s cool to you about PCF, something like below:

Giveaway, all entries automatic 1 entry
Member of a year +1 entry
1000+ posts +1 entry
+1 entry for every sale/purchase with Windwalker
+1 entry if you’ve attended a meetup with Windwalker
+1 entry for every giveaway you’ve done
+1 entry for every charity auction hosted
Etc.

It’s open to everyone, but those with stronger connections to you and to the community have a greater shot.

edit: oh and when you go this direction because it sounds the best, +1 to whoever gave you the idea ;)

In addition to any stipulation you set forth, how about people contribute $x to your favorite charity for a chance to win? A win-win-win situation.

Awesome idea, but unfortunately can’t do that publicly (I think). Too close to the raffle concept.

Maybe “suggested” donations? Even then I would PM Tommy first if going that direction.
