Board Gamers, show us your loot! (7 Viewers)

OCD props to @Poker Zombie for alphabetizing the list.

OP needs to cleanup those shelfs to be able to find games by name or some other attribute !!!

My favorite board game is Liars Dice. It has a board, but mainly just to keep track of bets.

So, is anyone planning on going to GenCon this year? Registration is May 19th, and I'm currently trying to build my schedule. Currently looking at
  • Are You a Werewolf? - We've had this game in our collection for years, but have never played it, as it is a "party" game, and we typically don't have enough players to make it interesting.
  • Gloomhaven - I've heard great things about this game but have never played it.
  • Formula De' Tournament - Last time I entered this tournament, I never made it out of the first corner. I can't do worse, can I?
  • SuperRoboRally - One of my all-time favorite games, with real, programmable robots.
  • Secret Hitler - This game took on a life of it's own at S@P. Looking forward to seeing how it plays with a totally different group before I buy it.
  • Hero System RPG - I have played a RPG maybe twice in the last 18 years, and that was 8 years ago. Everything I own is 2-3 editions earlier than what is currently out. Hopefully my RPG skills can overcome any lack of rules.
  • Terraforming Mars - Another game with great reviews that I have never played. Basically my game collection is about 20 years out of date, and that is about to change.
If there is anything people think I should look for (or if you are running an event) let me know.

You will be able to spend as much as you'd like, and there will still be more you want to try and play. I used to be able to keep up with the hobby, but that's a full-time job and then some anymore.

Isn't Liars Dice the same as Call My Bluff? Fun party game!

Oh, we know. We both did work for game companies before and have been to GenCon many times. We've just invested less as it got harder to find good games, IMHO.

It's still hard to find good games. The problem is Kickstarter - there are a million mediocre games out there. My want list has shrunk considerably in the last 5-10 years, and my favorite way to discover new games is to let my friends buy them first.

I would get a copy of Wingspan...Sagrada is pretty solid too.

I saw this exact version of the game at the thrift store yesterday.  Maybe I should have bought it!

Yeah, I love the game.

I think poker players will like this game. It’s a dice version of liars poker.

There is an odds component, bluffing, more information vs less information and luck components to the game.

We’ve worn the board pretty badly over the last 30 years. I’ve thought about trying to find a woodworker hobbiest to create a duplicate of the board using inlaid wood. It would look really cool with different species of wood and something cool (abalone or some such) for the numbers.

OK, you convinced me to go back to the thrift store and pick it up:

The instructions are missing but I can probably find them online.

Unfortunately not. I haven't been in years and would love to get back there, but it's hard for me to justify the cost. I was able to get Abby hooked on BGGCon along with some friends of ours so that's our family out-of-state gaming vacation for the year for the forseeable future. GenCon would be too big/crowded for Abby's liking, the flights for us are more expensive into Indy, and I haven't yet found anyone that I can go there with to split room costs. On the whole, I've found poker meetups to be far more economical.

We have definitely dropped off the past 6-10 years. It feels weird to be going back, without having booth commitments, planned demos, or running any tournaments. It has also become ridiculously expensive - moreso when someone isn't paying for our room, badges, etc. It feels both weird, and a little sad - like looking back at a chapter of life that is now behind us.

On the plus side, closing that chapter has enabled me to spend a ton of money on chips, and making the poker "gaming" experience better than a normal poker game, so maybe it's not really closing a chapter... it's just character development over the past 20 years.

The best cons are all the little ones that have popped up now. They are all over the place. The one I'd like to get to some day is HeavyCon.
