Casino Chip Madness (CCM): Best Full Casino Sets of All Time - Nomination Thread (3 Viewers)

We get it, youre in love with TRK. Theres a larger contingent of Paulson lovers than TRK, thats just a fact. If I had my choice I would have zero TRKs, besides the Mapes. We each have our own opinions, JButler did a sweet job putting this together, he went by the sets that had the most nominations. Maybe get some of your fellow TRK lovers to speak up or join PCF to get the vote the way you want, otherwise, no reason to thread crap

Call it whatever you want to. My point isn't to insult others with a different opinion than me. That'd be silly. You're all free to love whichever sets you like. My point is that there is a selection bias in this thread. A STRONG selection bias. This leads to results that are in contrast to the goals set forth in the OP.

What we end up with is not reflective of what the members here actually think. This is my point. Take it or leave it, I don't care. But I know a thing or three about the design of experiments. :)

Trying to figure out if you are being funny or are just exceedingly arrogant.

I'm being serious but obviously in a joking manner when I say you haven't seen nice sets! Geez, lighten up guys! Crack open a beer or roll up a joint!! :)

My point is there's a selection bias. That's all. Just having some fun :D

Here's what I mean. Let's say we designed the experiment a little bit differently. Let's say we started with a hypothetical list of what the community would consider the top 50 sets. We then had a master post which showed all 50 sets in the same manner (perhaps somewhat similar to the post that @BGinGA posted where it's each chip side by side from each set, all the same size), and we put the sets in random order. Then, we had the members select which sets from that list they thought were the best looking sets, in order of preference for their top ten list.

This would have produced different results. There'd still be a strong selection bias because of the audience though, since many of these sets are owned by members. But what if you controlled for that? Again, you'd have different answers.

Basically, you can't answer the question that is the goal of this thread, here on these forums. It's futile. Fun, but futile.

You are more than welcome to start that thread on your own, though. No one stopping you. And its not Jbutlers fault people didnt follow the rules in the OP

Seems to me the goal of this thread isn't to be scientific or statistically valid or control for bias, which most of us seemed to understand and accept. We're not Pew or Gallup or the New England Journal of Medicine here. Rather, I'd say the goal was for this community of chip degens to voice which casino set it collectively thought was the best via a fun nomination/elimination method.

By my observation I'd say it's doing exactly that.

I also don't get why so many people are offended when I say that I think some of your sets are ugly. I love my Grove chips, but I am fully aware that many people here think they are beyond hideous. I also know that some people hate bright neon colored chips and probably think my Pick Hobson's are ugly. And I wouldn't be offended one bit if someone was giving me shit about either of them. I think your PNY, Vineyard, Ritz, Crystal Park, Silver Birds, Grand Vics, and many other sets out there are absolutely HIDEOUS. There's no reason to be offended by that. It doesn't mean I dislike YOU. I just don't want your chips. But I'll still buy you a beer!

To me, it's no different than giving a friend shit about their favorite football team being different from yours. I like the Seahawks, and you don't have to. But I'm gonna give you shit if your a Niners fan!

Damn, that sucks. I'm now sure when Jack went to Law School to learn to construct correct protocols concerning popularity based polls on a poker chip site he must have bombed that exam. Jack, we still love you.

because you crapped on the thread and the process for no reason, if you didnt like it, dont participate. pretty simple IMO. Jack had a sweet idea and you came in and brought nothing positive to the discussion. There are two ways to bring up perspective changes. Politely and well thought out perspective changes to be presented. Or to basically jsut crap on the whole thread. IMO of course

That's where we disagree I suppose. By design, it will not accomplish your stated goal. That's my whole point. Still, nothing wrong with having a little fun. But the "Sweet 16" is not indicative of what the community here actually thinks are the 16 best chip sets out there.

Anyhow, I'm done here. Not trying to turn this into an argument, which it has clearly become. Let's just enjoy these awesome nominations and chip pr0n and see what the results are!!

Cheers!(y)

Ya Jack!! What the hell man! I'm extremely disappointed in you!

Oh, and what's with the cock on Kennedy's forehead?! Haha, actually, in all seriousness... I am curious about that one :)

I'd take Eliott's Riversides over the Parks without question, but I'd take the Parks over the Nevada Club/Lodge chips.

Agree with Mel, this is pretty interesting. So do you like the Riversides because of the Moon spots, or is it just that the Nevada Club/Lodge inlays are too plain for you or something else? I seem to recall you saying something before about inlays being the most important aspect of a chip for you. I'm the same. Inlays are #1 for me, and are the primary reason I dislike most of the sets I do. I like simple though. Hence I like PCAs, Rounders, Grove, Bellagio, Nevada Clubs, Pick Hobsons, etc. If you see a theme in the sets I like, it's probably that they all have really simple inlays. I'm willing to forgive the inlays on the WSOP chips though because of those colors! But if they were giant inlays, I'd hate them all over agian, haha.

You're way too sensitive. Not crapping on anyone. Just having some good ol fun. Lighten up.

I'm going sum everything up with one comment...

Math sucks the everloving fucking fun out of everything.

Seriously, think about it, unless you're a dork, math literally makes everything less fun.

NO MORE MATH. MOAR CHIPES. No more talk of selection theory of 9 tab spreadsheets or whatever the fuck.

Like Crash Davis said, this is fun, goddamnit, lets have some fuckin' fun out there.

I could be wrong, but I think he means to call the guy a dickhead.

Well... I am a nerd. Definitely a nerd. My nickname is Rainman for god's sake lol. Math trumps all!!! :D

Hideous? Really? Most of our members have the manners and the decency not to post that they think somebody's chips are ugly or hideous. Even when a set doesn't particularly appeal to us, we can usually find something nice to say. If not, we generally keep our virtual mouths shut. Sure, we have a fugly table thread, but nobody here (well, almost nobody) would post a photo in that thread of a table that one of our members had built and is so proud of.

There's no reason to be offended by that. It doesn't mean I dislike YOU. I just don't want your chips. But I'll still buy you a beer!

You may give your friends shit, but this is a public forum, not a frat house.

My parents taught me that if I can't say something nice to or about somebody, I shouldn't say anything at all. I took that advice to heart and it's served me well.

@jbutler, I apologize for crapping on the person who crapped on your thread. Also, I wish that I had taken the time to nominate some of my favorites, like the Stardust Paulsons, the Kings Castle TRKs, and the Midnight Rose's Chipcos. Maybe next time.

This is just comical now... who would have thought that so many people would be so butt hurt by some random math nerd from California thinking their chips are ugly?

Seriously? You need to grow some thicker skin. I can't even imagine how difficult life must be if you get offended by something as frivolous as that.

I'm done with this thread. You guys are killin me. Time to smoke a joint. Go Mapes!

There's a difference between being offended and annoyed.

Thank goodness. That's one dry piece of lumber to gnaw on.

Rose goes in front big guy.

Back to chips! I love this thread. Huge credit to @jbutler for starting this. I get to see so many sets I never even knew existed and see how every members opinions offer on what is beautiful/great about chips differ. To each their own of course. But I'm really grateful that threads like these come up

And picking between two sets is really fun and tough. There were sets that I voted for that I previously didn't think I would.

I kind of like how a Sweet 16 here parallels the NCAA bball tournament. There is always a great team that runs into Mapes in the first two rounds. Love it Jack.

slight tjack - when will the tournament begin for rating @jbutler avatars from the past?

I was slow to get anything in here, but I still like the Terrible Twain secondary set. The ones and fives are an incredible combo
